A Che Foo correspondent reports the allied army reached Pekin on Monday. He cites belief that the Chinese envoys and allies are likely safe with the Christian army as U S consul and French and German authorities oppose British plans to advance north.
London reports the British government expects allied forces to reach Pekin soon, with ten miles from the city on Aug 12. Shanghai focus grows as France and the United States push for coordinated action and questions rise over landing troops there.
A semi official despatch from Fung Chow dated Aug 12 reports Japanese troops occupying Fung Chow and nearing Pekin as Chinese forces retreat. Last night arms and granary stores were captured. Shanghai notes consuls meeting while Britain objects to landing troops and warns of withdrawal.

Port Hope Ontario August 16 Abraham Cramer a carpenter fell about 18 feet head first from a two story house while working on the roof. He fractured the skull and died last night according to hospital reports.

The nuptials were performed by Rev Dr Benjamin J Keily Bishop of Savannah an uncle of the bride with Cardinal Gibbons Vicar General McNamara and bishops of Detroit and Richmond in attendance There were no bridesmaids maid of honor or best man.

General Hantelgeff, second in command of Russia's Imperial Gendarmerie, died hours after a meeting with a stranger on a train from St. Petersburg toward the German frontier.
