Scholarship Awarded for Essay on the Constitution

The sixteenth annual Farm Show sponsored by The Second National Bank Nazareth runs November 18 19 and 20 at Nazareth High School. Exhibitors come from across the country with 4 H Club members drawing keen competition. Special Friday programs include community singing and addresses.

The Pennsylvania Bankers Association committee and state college leaders held a two day Fall meeting at State College October 29 and 30. Dean Watts spoke on agricultural problems and soil productivity while a 50th anniversary lunch celebrated the School of Agriculture and Experiment Station. A bake sale by the Evangelical Church Ladies Aid is planned for November 13 at Phillips Meat Market starting 9:30 a.m.

The Junior C E Society of St John s Reformed Church held a basement social on Saturday with games and prizes and refreshments for eighteen attendees. Superintendent's Report on Nazareth Schools

Enrollment totals show 1347 pupils with 605 in grades 16 358 in Junior High and 384 in Senior High. Attendance for the month and term reaches 98 percent with 1321 pupils in daily attendance during the month. Seven accidents occurred in September and October causing 16 lost school days including five minor football injuries. The district maintains membership in the National Safety Council.

Nazareth Forms Bi Centennial Committee for 1940

At a Nazareth Chamber of Commerce meeting held at the Nazareth Inn on October 19 a five member committee was appointed to organize Nazareth's 200th anniversary celebration in 1940. Members are Howard Shimer William Bennett J A Schaeffer R B Fortuin and Mrs C W K Shafer. The group aims to establish a general Bi Centennial Committee and sub committees with extensive planning over the next eighteen months.

Nazareth School Board Meets With Full Attendance

Nazareth School Board held its regular monthly session with all members present. Treasurer reports a balance of 60 973.40 as of October 1 1937 and October receipts of 10 135.10 against expenditures of 15 183.80 leaving 55 924.70 on November 1. Sinking Fund shows October receipts 3 375 and expenditures 3 375 for interest due October 1 leaving 40 188.03 in the fund on November 1. Tax Collector reports October school tax receipts of 7 876.07 and bills totaling 2 455.06 approved for payment.

Nazareth Woman's Club Holds Monthly Meeting

The Nazareth Woman's Club met in the Nazareth High School music room with president Miss Florence L. Nicholas presiding. They planned a tin can matinee for Nov 23 at 4 pm in the Broad Street Theatre and a free film at the U M C A on Nov 16. The American Home department set a meeting for Nov 24 at 8 pm at Mrs. Theodore Doll’s Stockertown home with Attorney Charles Shimer speaking on "The Legal Status of Women." Members agreed to collect Christmas toys at the December meeting for local children. Hospitality plans and a dramatic social program by Maron Bailey followed, with multiple members as hosts.
