On Sunday five thousand five hundred sixty five cars were examined in Wind Gap by European corn borer inspectors. The Ranatine is stationed above Lehigh and New England tracks on Wind Gap hill and all southbound cars passing that point are examined for corn. No corn is allowed to pass the inspectors. Motorists are pleased with the efficiency of the inspection. In spite of heavy traffic Sunday.
Paul Kripple, a Universal Gas Station attendant near Nazareth Bath road, dodged three shots fired by a bandit at 11 15 Saturday night. The assailant ordered him to stop, fired through Gus Kiefer’s roadstand, then fled in a waiting car. Constable David Koch and locals searched but found nothing. The gunman, described as medium build wearing a white cap, had tried another robbery weeks earlier.
The Fehnel family plans their 19th annual reunion on Saturday August 9 at Nazareth Fair Grounds rain or shine led by President E E Fehnel Allentown. The Carolina Coons minstrel show plus sports contests food prizes and novelty features are planned with free coffee for those who bring cups.
Pennsylvania growers plan an August 3 to 9 tour covering New York Michigan and Ohio with stops at Buffalo Niagara Falls Ontario and Michigan State College. Lodging provided at Guelph dorms and Yates Farm meeting point set for 6:30 am start from Stockertown. County Agent Coleman coordinating and urging local representation.
Charles Madge of Lafona faced a Nazareth justice hearing for assault and battery after Mrs. Fannie Morico testified and Dr. William Happel documented chest and left ear injuries. The hearing included assaults on Annie Morico and Charles Morico, her daughter and son. Squire James Fry fined Madge $5 plus costs.
Lehigh University lists 188 honor students for the second semester. Of the 188 names, 105 residents are from Pennsylvania and 49 percent of the student body are Pennsylvanians. Notables include Edward S. Brotzman Easton Walter C. Bachman town Joseph Napranovik Freemansburg Clyde A. Harding Pen Argyl Willard M. Moyer Quakertown. Northampton County board of Directors of the Poor will meet Monday at the County Home.
Harrisburg July 30. An attractive exhibit by the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture will tour six county fairs in August and September. The display covers pest control, animal diseases, sanitation, and disease prevention, with life histories, specimen mounts, and parasite examples. Specialists will accompany the exhibit to answer questions.
A two day Ku Klux Klan of Pennsylvania event is set for Bethlehem on August 9 and 10. The schedule lists registration by 4 p m, a lunch from 12 to 1 30, flag allegiance, Kourier and Klavalier drills, dinner from 4 30 to 5 30, and a parade forming at 6 p m with continuation noted on page five.
Walnutport district plans include hosting the 1931 county Sunday School Convention at St. Pauls Union church in Indianland near Bath in May. The annual Post of American Legion carnival at Washington Park runs through three more nights. Prizes are awarded nightly via drawings with tickets from purchases at stands and concessions.

Northampton County 4-H leaders plan a picnic at Indian Trail Park Pennsville on Tuesday August 5 with a morning program at 10 am a basket lunch at noon and entertainment by Nazareth and Richmond club groups. Families and former 4-H members are invited plus core club leaders and state officials. Route 45 from Bath to Lehigh Gap marks the park.
At Easton a Republican executive committee meeting reelected Peter S. Trumbower as treasurer and Mortie B. Appelbaugh as secretary with Titus M. Ruch continuing as chairman. The event confirms ongoing GOP organization across three towns.
Fire losses in this borough totaled 850 dollars for the first half of the year with no fires in July. Early incidents included a March 3 blaze at Carrie Hagenbuch’s Spruce street home caused by cloth near a shaved ice setup, an April 27 coat rack fire at Edward Nagle’s Nazareth RD home causing 309 dollars damage, a May 23 gasoline basement fire at Frank Rohn’s South Main street property, and a June 11 chicken house fire at 376 Lincoln avenue owned by Clark Vogel with 250 dollars loss. Two out of town calls occurred May 24 at Clarence Laubach’s Easton RC farm, a chicken house fire totaling 200 dollars. The major loss was Fulmer’s farm barn and storage house between Tatamy and Nazareth, about 40,000 dollars, with multiple fire companies responding and the blaze visible for miles.
Robert F. Silfies of Bethlehem was reelected president of the Silvius Silvius Family Association at the tenth annual reunion held at the local Fair Grounds. Nearly 300 attended, with officers and committees reelected for next year and prizes awarded to the oldest attendees, youngest child, and a long-distance visitor. The 1931 meeting place was left to the Executive Committee.
The Nazareth Board of Health reported milk samples from local dealers. Benner pasteurized milk contained 1 950 000 bacteria per cubic centimeter while Repsher showed 700 000 and Woodring 900 000. Fat percentages ranged from 3.5 to 3.6 with formaldehyde and soda tests negative. Specific gravity readings varied. Continued on Page Four.
Keystone poultrymen plan an August 20 tour of New Hampshire poultry farms and facilities starting from Durham. The visit includes farms in Stratham Dover and Hudson, a Hampton Beach stop, and optional extended trips to Boston or New England. The program features modern housing, battery breeders, and experimental broiler plants with several routes via New York and Connecticut.
Rev Charles W Webber of the Fellowship of Reconciliation spoke at Eagles Hall on Monday night about Africa India China and Japan. He showed images of exploited African workers in Johannesburg and harsh early industrial scenes in Asia, plus missionary efforts in the East and calls for shorter hours fair wages and abolition of child labor. Next Monday at 8 30 p m he will discuss Good Will Industries.
Mr and Mrs John Charley and Mrs Charley’s mother Helen are held for court on $200 bonds each by Squi d Fry on charges of assault and battery preferred by Mrs Kohl of Bath. Mrs Kohl says Mrs Charley turned hose on her during a sixteen month old incident leading to a physical confrontation described with pulling and other actions.
