Nazareth A A announces season start with daylight saving from April 29 to September 29, 1934. Clocks advance one hour at 2 a m on Sunday April 29. Services banks schools and hours shift one hour earlier after April 28. Use discretion for change timing.
Plainfield Township Public Schools and pupils gathered at the Plainfield Church to present a historical outline of eleven district schools under the free public school act. The program continued on page seven.
Dr. James N. Rule, state superintendent, outlined the strain on district budgets for the next year. He cited April budget deadlines and real estate value declines as a major handicap. He noted wealth gaps, with the richest district valuing per teacher far higher than average, underscoring need for local school finance revision.
Legionnaires from Northampton County will visit Brown Lynch Post No 9 of Easton on Friday April 27 for the bi monthly meeting at Easton Armory. NJ ritual team to perform the 10 o'clock work for the first time, with posts from Carbon Monroe Lehigh and Warren Counties invited.

St John s Reformed Church held its seventy fifth anniversary with capacity crowds at Sunday morning and evening services, plus a Monday eve greeting by visiting pastors. Rev W H Woring spoke of the church history from 1801 to 1931 and Rev Albert G Peters preached on worship in the modern world. The Gloria Trumpeters and choirs performed, with organ and orchestral programs, as local ministers offered greetings. anniversary committee chaired by Oliver Knauss coordinated events.
Nazareth High School opened the 1934 Lehigh Northampton Interscholastic League season with a 9 to 4 win over Hellertown. Andy Leh's squad knocked two Hellertown pitchers from the mound as fans debated weather’s lure to football over baseball. Continued on page four. The Ladies' Auxiliary of Captain Owen Rice Camp 20 Sons of Veterans held an inspection and initiation in Eagle Hall. Mrs. Clara Samuels of Allentown led the inspection with staff, the initiatory degree was conferred on three candidates Mrs. Florence Hagenbuch Mrs. Idella Hess and Miss Meda Hess. Minutes read, sick list noted, social period followed with refreshments. Guests from Easton Bethlehem Allentown spoke on aid and work of the order. Mr. and Mrs. Lester Koehler visited New Tripoli Sunday.

Nazareth hosted a large procession of about 500 United Cement Workers from Nazareth Coplay and North Ampton last Thursday evening. Following the march a meeting in the Royal Theatre featured speeches and charter awards for Lone Star Nazareth Cement and Penn Dixie with Chief Burgess Frank P. Hahn as grand marshal.
Amelia Yeski of Upper Nazareth Township pleaded guilty to aggravated assault charged by her husband Ferdinand Yeski and was held on 300 dollars bail for term of court. Henry Yeski, Ferdinand's son, was held on 300 dollars bail for court charged with assault and battery by his father. The hearing followed a complaint by Ferdinand that his wife and son grappled with him after a reprimand and his son, during the scuffle, said to have pinned him to the floor while his wife struck him with kindling.
State Welfare Department will hold inter county meetings with Mothers Pund boards to explain new pension laws for blind residents. About 4000 may qualify for up to 30 dollars monthly, funded from state liquor store profits. Applications begin with local county boards and an eye exam will determine eligibility. Charles Anglemire celebrated his birthday with friends.
The Senior Class presented The Patsy by Barry Connors to a capacity crowd. A comedy delivered with strong performances especially by Margaret Saeger and the cast, keeping up the high standard of prior classes.
The Nazareth Muhlenberg Club, formed by Nazareth area alumni of Muhlenberg College, held a dinner at the Nazareth Inn last Thursday. President P. S. Trumbower acted as toastmaster. College officers Oscar F. Bernhenn, Albert Fasig, and Harry A. Benfer spoke on college affairs within their offices. Also present was Johnny Utz.
Ea Koehler the last surviving Civil War veteran of Nazareth died at home after a long illness at age 93 years two months. Born in Moore township he served nine months in Company H 153rd Pennsylvania Volunteers and fought at Gettysburg. Survived by two daughters Mrs Milton Jones Nazareth and Mrs W J Edelman Bath, three sons, 21 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. Funeral at Jones residence and Moorestown Church with interment at the church cemetery.
Harrisburg report notes graduates from 204 colleges serve as teachers in Pennsylvania emergency education classes. Department of Public Instruction officials say almost every major United States college or university is represented on the emergency school faculty. Among unemployed teachers in the program are graduates from seventeen foreign universities in England Canada Italy Spain Chile France Switzerland and Hungary.
Nazareth Rotary Club elected Howard S Shafer as president for the year starting July 1. Emaus Rotarians attended, with three members speaking about youth week and the club diamond jubilee ongoing in Emaus. Several visitors were introduced and the board later elected Shafer as president, Reichenbach as vice president, Schmidt as treasurer, and Shafer as secretary.
Firemen rescued a girl from a Nazareth house fire as Mr and Mrs James Avatte of New and South streets shouted in relief. The Sunday blaze prompted quick action and commendable fire department work.
Edward Lear, one of the county’s oldest residents and a longtime member of Lafayette No. 217 G. A. R. of Easton, died at his home after a lengthy illness. Born June 29, 1839, he lived in Stockertown all his life and was active in Christ Church and local civic affairs. Known as “Uncle Ed” to many, he cared for neighbors and children alike, leaving a lasting legacy of kindness. His widow Elizabeth had predeceased him. He served as treasurer of the Reformed church and held borough offices for 48 years, including treasurer and other posts. (Continued on Page Theres).
