The Central Grimes County Volunteer Fire Department hosts a Saturday fund raising drive at the American Legion Fairgrounds in Anderson. Events include an 11 a.m. parade, barbecue dinners 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., a cake sale crafts bingo and more. Proceeds fund a new fire station and a second fire truck with a chassis bought from Brazos Valley Development Council.

The Chamber of Commerce hosts its first annual July 4 picnic at August Horst Park on Monday with an all day lineup of golf, food and games. The event features an 8 am golf tee off for a $5,000 hole in one prize on hole No 5, plus food concessions opening at 10 am and midway rides near the new pavilion. Local groups run carnival games and the dunking pond while Phi Beta Kappa sorority members operate the dunk tank amid other attractions. Volunteers under Gene Finke of Brenham will barbecue overnight starting Sunday.

Schult Homes Corporation reports 1977 output at its Navasota plant is the highest in five years with预计 gross sales to exceed 7 million. Backlog stands at 21 million as the firm aims to produce about 600 homes this year with capacity to double. Navasota police charge two black men in a pre dawn burglary at Sunshine Washateria 1205 South LaSalle Street on June 18. Arthur Leon Richardson 19 of 1315 South LaSalle Street and Celester Hall 26 of 1103 Grimes Street were held on $5,000 bonds after being arrested June 20 and June 21. Investigator A. E. A Grimes County deputy reported an elderly Plantersville resident was robbed of 200 dollars at his home three miles west of Plantersville on Highway 105. The large male suspect followed the victim inside after asking for water and escaped with the cash. No injuries were reported and the investigation by Deputy Bubba Love continues with no suspects yet.
