TIC Head Recommends Hiring Cor C Manager

Harry Clark of the Texas Industrial Commission urged Grimes County Chamber of Commerce to hire a fulltime manager at an Economic Development Clinic in Navasota. City Hall Offices To Close Monday For 4th Of July

Navajo City Hall will be closed all day Monday July 4 in observance of Independence Day. City Manager Charlie L. Carter urged residents to have garbage out for pickup by 7 a.m. to allow crews to finish early and spend the holiday with their families.

July 4 Fete Planned at Firemen's Hall

A Fourth of July celebration sponsored by the Navasota Volunteer Fire Department and Knights of Columbus Council 4054 will be held at Firemen's Hall. Barbecue dinner starts at 11 a.m. Games in the afternoon and a dance from 8 to 12 p.m. All are invited.

More than 300 students from the 1966 American Red Cross summer swimming class will host a gala aquatic show at 5 30 p m Friday at the municipal pool. Joint Vacation Bible School July 18 22 in Navasota

Damage Heavy In Car-Pickup Wreck Saturday

Four persons escaped serious injury in a 5:45 p.m. Saturday crash two miles south of Navasota on State Highway 6. Charles Hughes, 19, Navasota, drove a pickup pulling an empty stock trailer. James Portis, 20, Houston, drove a car with passengers Joe Portis and Sammy Williams. Hughes turned left onto a dirt road while Portis tried to pass. the collision flipped the pickup and trailer, blocking the highway and injuring none severely. Hughes had a bruised shoulder. others suffered minor cuts and bruises. Both vehicles were heavily damaged.

City budget up for 1966 67 by eleven thousand

The 1966 67 city budget totals 430 455 up from 418 690 last year with an 11 765 increase. A public hearing is set for Monday July 11 from 5 to 8 p m at City Hall. The General Fund receives 174 530, Water 90 625, Sewer 27 100, Gas 138 200. The city manager notes rising costs and potential tax structure changes to cover needed street and utility expansions.

Navasota Dam Hearing Set for August 2 in Austin

Gov. Connally presented the report on the Navasota River Watershed prepared by the Corps of Engineers to the Texas Water Rights Commission. A hearing will occur Tuesday August 2 at 2 p.m. in Austin to hear testimony for and against the feasibility of the proposed federal project including Millican Dam and Reservoir and Navasota No 2 Dam and Reservoir in Grimes Brazos Robertson and Leon Counties.

Head Start Enrolls 111 In Navasota District

School officials report 111 pupils enrolled in the Navasota Independent District Head Start program during its first week. Led by principal Ona Franklin, eight instructors aides and three junior high volunteers run the $45,136 program overseeing songs games and activities.

Navasota merchants and nearby towns will close Monday July 4 in observance of Independence Day. Post master Bert Hansen announced no home deliveries or window service at the Navasota Post Office that day.

VFW Delegates To Attend State Convention

VFW Post 4006 will send John Paul Keelan senior vice commander W E Barron and Arthur Warnasch to the 46th Texas state VFW convention at the Rice Hotel Houston Friday to Sunday. Also attending are Andy Borg commander in chief and Leslie M Fry senior vice commander. An estimated 80 to 1000 Texas veterans are expected. The state VFW beauty contest Friday at 730 p m will feature Lum and Abner star Chester Lauck as master of ceremonies. Evening programs including dances Friday and Saturday are open to the public.

Trico Construction Opens Near Dyer Lumber on Houston Highway

J Paul Law leads Trico Construction Company opening this week on Houston Highway adjacent to Dyer Lumber. Houston Woman Injured In Sign Truck Collision

A 25 year old Houston widow Janice Q. Ray was severely injured when her car collided with a sign erecting truck four miles south of Navasota on State Highway 6. She was treated for head injury a severely cut arm and multiple leg fractures and later moved to a Houston hospital. The truck driver William H. Oaks and passenger Ronald Houser, both of Houston, were not hurt.
