Three Suspects Freed on Bond in $10,000 Theft Case
Three men arrested in Bellville for the June 6 theft of $10,000 from Navasota resident W. E. Reynolds were released on bond. Howard Smith Hackett saw his bond cut to 10,000 while Robert Taylor and Wesley Armstrong posted 25,000 each. Reynolds identified the trio and said he was coerced into a 10,000 bank loan for them.

Conroe men held in Red Star Grocery burglary case
Two Conroe men, Jackie Reedy and James Cook, are jailed in Grimes County on 1000 bond each after a June 17 attempted burglary of Red Star Grocery on Farm Road 1774 between Anderson and Plantersville. They were charged with willful damage to property and were arrested June 19 in relation to a DWI. The incident included gunfire that damaged the store front. the owner Tommy Floyd provided a vehicle description.

Thieves Steal Portable TV From Navasota Area Home
Deputy Sheriff Bubba Love investigated a theft at the J. T. Taylor residence seven miles south of Navasota off State Highway 6. Reported Sunday, a back door latch was broken to enter and only the portable television was taken.

Retiring Mid-South director R P Trant honored
R P Trant of Keith retires after 34 years as Mid-South Electric Cooperative director. He helped organize rural electrification in Grimes County starting in 1939, served as secretary-treasurer, vice president and president, and was named honorary life member. By 1942 the coop had its first lines energized and now serves about 6,700 members on 1,700 miles of line across five counties.

A $7 million bond issue for Grimes County Municipal District No. 1 in Bluebonnet Country will be on Saturday, July 14 from 7 am to 7 pm at the Golf Club House on old Bridge Road.
