Bomb Dismantled After Navy Searches In City Creek
Army experts dismantled a three foot World War I practice bomb found by two Navasota youths in City Creek near the Brosig Avenue bridge. Lt. Ethridge Lt. Red ding and Lt. Holcombe confirmed the device contained no explosives and was designed to emit black smoke for aiming checks. The bomb was moved from the creek and taken to city offices for safe disposal while the investigation continued.

Navasota Lions Install Officers At Meeting
Navasota Lions Club installed Bill Bockman as president at a First Methodist Church meeting. Bryan’s Roland Dansby conducted the ceremony before about 60 guests. Creel resigned after transfer to a San Marcos J C Penney store. New officers included Lanier Nichols Maynard Robison Binford Minsky and directors Hertenberger Treade Knight Smith. Dr and Mrs Tucker provided a vocal duet and 17 members earned perfect attendance awards, the largest in club history.

Six Navasota youths join 2200 plus campers from 239 Salvation Army Service Units for a week at Camp Hobitzelle near Dallas. Camp Hobitzelle covers 340 acres and offers swimming, boating, sports, cabins, and supervised activities under seasoned counselors. Officials To Negotiate Hospital Bids Tuesday
Grimes County officials plan a Tuesday meeting with Goleman Rolfe Houston architects and Chappell Hill Construction of Brenham to trim bids for the first phase of the new 28 bed Grimes County Hospital. Chappell Hill’s base bid of 379,990 exceeds the 335,000 initial budget by 44,990. alternate bid 369,071 exceeds by 34,071. A decision on awarding the contract is expected at the July 9 commissioners court meeting. A 200,000 grant from the federal HEW aided the project to be built on Judson Street in Navatota near Brazos Valley Hospital. Initial construction to begin once awarded.
