Synthetics Threaten Cotton Industry At Gulf States Meeting
At a Gulf States auditorium session, three Cotton Council staff described synthetics as the top rival to cotton. They cited five million bales of annual synthetic competition, rayon cheaper by four to eight cents a pound, and blends undercutting cotton. They blamed Rayon Institute and doubled wool sales, noted billion-dollar inefficiencies, and warned of rising foreign cotton and swelling synthetic production since 1946.

Six Navasota area scouters will join national and international scouts at the 1957 National Jamboree at Valley Forge PA on July 4. Attending are Jimmy Swanson Bill Hertenberger John Robertson Robert Yarbrough Clyde Lee Prestwood and his son Clyde Jr. The event draws about 50 000 Scouts from 12 U S regions and 11 countries with participation funded by each unit member paying 50 dollars for meals equipment and camp costs. Martin's Park will host a two day F.F.A rodeo July 3 and 4 with a new redwood chute and pen gates being installed. Houston producer Hugh Williamson will supply stock and direct the arena.
