Youth Fair Auction Sales Hit New High

Total sales of the 19th annual Grimes County Youth Fair livestock auction reached 14328.78 dollars on Thursday night, an increase of 4722.18 over last year’s 9606.60. Auctioneer F B Floyd presided as 46 animals were sold under the auction rights.

July 4 Weekend Spotlight Schult Mobile Home Groundbreaking

Plan for the long July fourth weekend includes the Schult Mobile Home groundbreaking at 4 30 p m Monday July 5 at the Navasota Industrial Park Governor Preston Smith will welcome Schult to Navasota and Texas. The $700 000 factory will be the largest of eight in the Schult system and first in Texas Free watermelon will be served by the Navasota Lions Invitations have been mailed to U S Senators John Tower Lloyd Bentsen Olin Teague State Senator Bill Moore Rep Bill Presnal Speaker Gus Mutscher and others Schulz Mobile Home Corp seeks salesmen a plant superintendent and a plant foreman with hourly workers to start in September or October. Watermelon Square Dance Festival July 10 at Firemen's Hall

About 350 people expected for the sixth annual Watermelon Square Dance Festival sponsored by the Goodtimers Square Dance Club of Bryan at Firemen's Hall. Watermelon served at 6 30 PM with grand march at 8 PM. Masters of ceremonies and callers from across Texas will lead square dances from San Antonio to Port Arthur. Campers arrive Friday night and stay through Sunday business meeting.

Kiwanis Radio Auction on KWBC Saturday

The eleventh Kiwanis Radio Auction on KWBC runs 3 to 7 p.m. from KRA Central in Navasota City Hall. Fifty two items valued at $2,362.54 will be auctioned to raise funds for youth programs, with advance bids starting at 1 p.m. and six bidding lines staffed by Kiwanis members.

Youths Charged After Burglary Sleepover Arrest

Six youths were arrested by Navasota police at 3 30 a m after officers found them sleeping in an unoccupied furnished two story house on East Washington Avenue. The group included an 18 year old, three 17 year olds, and two 16 year olds. Officers Johnny Fuqua and Andrew Turner placed them in custody for burglary.

Searchers Find Body of Elderly Richards Man

An elderly Richards man, 69-year-old O. C. Oliver of Richards, was found dead behind the wheel of his pickup truck about half a mile from his home at 10:45 p.m. Friday. Justice of the Peace E. T. Ketchum Jr. of Nava sota said Oliver died of natural causes after relatives reported his disappearance to the Grimes County Sheriff's Department at about 10:30 p.m.

Schult to Build Eighth Mobile Home Plant in Navasota

Elkhart Indiana based Schult Mobile Home Corp announces a new plant at Navasota Texas 60 miles northwest of Houston. Site prep underway on 20 acres for two buildings totaling 75000 square feet in the Navasota Industrial Foundation Park. Production to begin this fall with capacity of 1500 homes annually shipping to Texas southern Oklahoma Louisiana and western Arkansas. Francis Kennard vice president sales is selecting dealers for the marketing area.

Band Members Meet Monday Night for July 5 Ceremony
