A 230 acre tract near Navasota with full city utilities hosts an industrial development clinic. Speakers include Mr. Raburn Mr. Clark and Mr. Milner presenting topics from financing facilities to prospect presentations and a post lunch railroad hour. A Fish Fry panels on priority projects concludes with a $25 savings bond prize.

Industrial clinic to aid new industry in Grimes County

The Texas Industrial Commission and Economic Development Division announce a community clinic on Thursday from 9 to 4 at the Fireman’s Hall on Manley Street. Speakers include Jack T. Taylor and Ted A. Blaske with Gulf States Utilities, Lloyd Branna and Don Clark, and other development consultants. A bus tour of the area will follow, led by TIC head James R. Bradley and Texas A&M University researchers.

Five to fourteen year olds tied to eight Navasota burglaries

Grimes County deputies unravel a case involving four siblings from Navasota who burglarized at least eight locations after their mother deserted them. A 14-year-old led police to multiple crimes including library books, skate gear, and church valuables. The mother faces desertion charges and the children may be declared dependent and neglected for placement with an uncle in Waco.

Two Navasota Men Charged in Package Store Burglary

Sheriff identified 24-year-old Jackie Dean Hilzendager and 39-year-old Joe Slogum as suspects in the June 12 burglary of Long Branch Package Store on West Highway 90. Entry was by breaking a front door lock. missing items included liquor, beer, and $1.25. Bond set at $1500 each.

Kiwanis Radio Auction in Navasota raised 31 806 50 with a 70 percent return on goods valued at 2 569 52. KRA chair Henry Conkling reported 400 bids across 68 items in a four hour sale, sixth straight year below last year's record by 74.

Armed Robber Gets $25 at Colonial Hotel

Navasota police and Grimes County deputies with Texas Ranger Bob Werner probe a Thursday night armed robbery at the Colonial Hotel. Clerk Chris Havecott described a 25 year old Latin American man wearing a white shirt and khaki pants who produced a small pistol and fled on foot with $25.

Scott Harris Named Texas National Rodeo Entry

Scott Harris son of Mr and Mrs Robert A Harris will represent Texas at the National High School Championship Rodeo in Wetumka Oklahoma in August He was chosen with Vernon Dickey of Houston and Jay Kerr of Del Rio for the boys cutting horse event The Texas team includes 27 competitors and has won the team trophy for three straight years Harris was selected at the State Championship Rodeo in Hallettsville last week

Corroded Pipe Floods Navasota School Offices

A corroded water pipe flooded the ceiling above the administration and bookkeeping offices at the Navasota school auditorium. Mud slimed desks chairs and floors while staff moved equipment to the auditorium lobby for temporary storage during repairs.

Gas Test Ends in Dry Hole at Hickory Hill

Ranger Drilling Company marked a dry hole on the 2,718 foot No. 1 5. R. Litzenberg shallow gas well at Hickory Hill Ranch near Navasota. Drilling began last week 1,000 feet from the east and north fences. The firm is led by Frank Kal lina et al of San Antonio, Nat Allen of Bryan, Henry Conk ling and Crit Hardy of Navasota. Litzenberg plans to convert the hole to an irrigation well.

Meat Cleaver Used To Open Juke Box

Navasota City officers investigate a Friday burglary at the R. L. Franklin Cafe on Railroad Street. Patrolman A E Red Sledge says burglars used a meat cleaver from the kitchen to hack into a juke box and stole an undetermined amount of cash.

Hungry burglars steal 40 pounds of barbecue

Thieves broke into the Highway Cafe on North La Salle Avenue through a rear door and shattered a glass pane. Only 40 pounds of cooked barbecue were reported missing to Navasota police. no arrests have been made.

Two Navasota men held theft suspects until police

Two Navasota men, Jackie Dean Hilzendager and Howard Tate, were arrested June 15 and charged with stealing Thomas Finke's 1963 model pickup. Finke chased the vehicle and stopped it, holding the suspects until Officer C. N. McCain arrived. The men, with bonds under 1000, appeared before Justice of the Peace Bobby Wickey at Anderson Grimes County.

New Phone Service for Plantersville Stoneham

About 120 subscribers in Plantersville Stoneham Grimes County began using improved telephone service after a daylong cut over by Navasota Telephone Company. The new community dial office supports 200 lines now with a planned 1000 line capacity and lists Plantersville Stoneham among exchanges served from Navasota.
