R. Buchanan, prominent Navasota farmer, was named by the Grimes County School Board to succeed R. M. Love as county trustee for a commissioners precinct. Love had held the office over 10 years and resigned due to business demands. Buchanan, of 817 Church street, will assume duties. Maroney of Fort Worth visited E. W. Sydow over the weekend.

Navasota to vote on 450000 gas revenue bonds
Friday night the Navasota City Commission unanimously approved transferring the Tex-Southeastern Gas franchise to the Navasota Distribution Company and set July 9 for a 450000 gas system revenue bond election. The plan aims to buy the gas system in the City’s name, lowering interest from about 6 percent to just over 4 percent if approved. deposits stay in escrow if the election fails, and $20000 of the issue funds immediate gas system improvements.

Fritz Abke Home Destroyed By Fire
A week of fires around Navasota culminated in the destruction of Fritz Abke’s home on Cemetery Hill Monday at 11 10 a m. Firefighters battled for nearly three hours hampered by water shortages and smoke. Mrs Abbe sobbed as crews worked to save the house. The cause is undetermined.

The Navasota City Commission unanimously hired Jack McBride of Rotan Moésle & Company of Houston as fiscal agent after weeks of negotiations on the gas distribution purchase. They opened three bids for a new 2-ton truck, will study further, and consider a police car program with six month replacements. bids due by July meeting. Library space needs were discussed as 1,200 donated books cannot be accepted due to crowding. Tom J. Moore, noted Brazos bottom land farmer and longtime Navasota resident, was named president of Tri-County Grain at a recent re organization meeting in Navasota. He succeeds William F. Borgstedte who died last month. A board slate also includes Fred Borgstedte and R W Dean. About 25 stockholders attended, representing 800 of 1000 shares. A committee was tasked to draft a sympathy resolution for the Borgstedte family to be recorded and sent to Mrs William Borgstedte.
