First Grimes Melons Shipped Wednesday
H O Henderson of the Navasota Watermelon Growers Association notes the first carload of Grimes County watermelons left Navasota Wednesday bound for Chicago. The 827 melons sold by Frank Imhoff to the A and P at 2 75 per 100 pounds weighed 37 pounds each, with strong demand and good quality. Prices around 2 cents a pound expected to hold until Texas and Georgia movements surge. Some growers already sell on streets and highway stands. frost in May reduced plantings but this season prospects are favorable with about 1500 acres planted, up 300 from last year.

R E Dunlap Sr sustained a broken left ankle at about 9 30 p m last Thursday when his foot was caught in the bumper of a pickup driven by J W Martin as he exited the truck near 505 Teague Street after attending the Methodist Men's banquet at First Methodist Church He was treated at Brazos Valley Sanitarium from Thursday to Tuesday and has been released.

Clarence L. Callaway, native of Navasota and nephew of Mrs. J. Robert Campbell, resigned as vice-president of the Dr. Pepper Co. to become president of the American Bank and Trust Co. of Dallas. A director since 1954, he announced continued sound banking policies and plans to move into a new $600,000 building at Zangs and Twelfth streets this fall. He formerly led English Freight Co. and owned Callaway Cartage and Equity Investment. His family visited Mrs. Campbell, and Clarence Jr. will enter the University of Texas that fall.

Carbon Dioxide Knocks Out Two At Quinn Drug
At the John D. Quinn Drug Store last Thursday the building filled with carbon dioxide from a stopped up air conditioning ventilator. Clerk Bertie Mae Mickleborough fainted and was treated at Brazos Valley Sanitarium. Another clerk Jim Harrison fainted later. both recovered after the vent was cleaned. Owner Erle Quinn advised regular ventilator checks.

J. E. Blair, district highway engineer of Bryan, asked Grimes County Commissioners Court for future farm to market road projects. A $5,000 seed separator was installed this week at J. C. Swanson's S&S Farm Store. This marks a new industry for Navasota as the separator operates on a 24 hour schedule, processing 300 acres of Hubam clover for H. H. Moore & Sons on a 1.00 per 100 pounds basis. Fresh seed is hulled then air cleaned and sieved before testing for germination and purity for sale.
