Navajo municipal pool shows early profit and rising attendance
Attendance at the Navaota pool climbs with Fridays and Sundays strongest. Manager Hollis Hood notes a slight profit so far despite a new 16 foot fiberglass diving board costing 175 dollars. About 200 children swam together last Sunday prompting a second lifeguard, and 40 adult season tickets plus 91 youth passes have been sold amid Red Cross programs. The pool operates 2 to 6 pm daily except Thursdays when it is drained and refilled.

Brenham SD to Close Washington Elementary and Consolidate High School
Trustees of Brenham Independent School District closed two rural elementary schools Pleasant Hill with three students and Washington with 16. They voted to consolidate all high school students into Brenham High School, which will close Pickard High School, previously all Negro. This followed directives from the U S Office of Education.

The Rev. James R. Tunnell preached his first sermon as pastor of the First Methodist Church here. The Rev. Sherrill Hall preached his first sermon at Wesley Methodist Church in Nederland after appointments by Bishop Paul E. Martin at the Texas Methodist Conference session in Houston. Tunnell, former Nederland pastor, is a Tyler native with degrees from SMU and Yale. Mrs. Tunnell is Carolyn Smith of Amarillo. The couple’s children are Sarah 9, David 5, and Julia 3.

City Fathers To Meet Monday With Engineers
The Navasota City Commission will meet at 5 p.m. Monday in City Hall to hear an update on the Bernard Johnson & Associates engineering plan for the municipal sewer and waterworks. Part of the session is expected to finalize the $478,600 budget for the 1967-68 fiscal year after a June 12 hearing. The June 12 meeting reviewed the first portion of a three phase water system improvement plan.

Youth Survives Pocket Knife Swallowing
Julian Wolk an 18 year old of Navasota survived an accidental pocket knife swallow with no ill effects. The incident occurred at the Wolk home on Wednesday and doctors at Grimes Memorial Hospital monitored progress by X rays from Wednesday through Saturday. X rays Thursday showed the blade in the digestive tract without need for surgery. He plans to be a senior at Navasota High School this fall.

City Commission Rejects Two Revenue Bond Bids
The City Commission rejected both bids for 168000 dollars in sewer and waterworks revenue bonds approved Feb 18 by Navasota voters. Rates were too high, Rotan Mosle & Company told to readvertise within 60 days. The rejected bids totaled 94 000 for sewer and 74000 for water.

State Highways 30 90 Undergo Asphalt Overlay Project
A roughly one inch asphalt overlay is being applied to about 20 miles of state highways in Grimes County. Work covers SH 90 from Navasota to Anderson and SH 30 from Evans Prairie to the Walker County line. Young Bros. Construction Co. of Waco will finish in about two weeks as part of the district hot mix level up program. The overlay smooths surfaces and acts as a sealer to cut maintenance costs.
