Grimes County Hospital bids exceed budget in June session
The low base bid for phase one of the Grimes County Hill Burton Hospital project came in at 379,990 from Chappell Hill Construction Co. of Brenham, exceeding the 335,000 allocation by 44,990. Alternate bids totaled 369,071, 34,071 over budget, while other bids ranged up to 429,800. The county plans to decide at the next Commissioners Court meeting, as a 200,000 grant from Washington supports the 28 bed Nant vascular facility on Judson Street in Navasota near Brazos Valley Hospital.

Navasota OKs 50 Cent Increase in Water Minimum
The Navasota City Commission in a five hour session raised the minimum water bill by 50 cents to 2.50 for up to 3,000 gallons, boosting revenue by about 9,890 yearly. Search Ends As Grupa Returns Home
A wide spread search for 18 year old Joe Grupa of Navasota ended when he stepped off a Greyhound bus in town about 38 hours after his disappearance. The 1962 Navasota High School graduate had last been seen after a car crash on State Highway 90 near Old Washington. He recalled waking in a ditch near Houston and did not know where he had been. Grupa, who lived with his mother on Piedmont Road, had been injured in the wreck that occurred near the Brazos River bridge and was aided by Mrs. Hill and Mr. Hill before asking to be driven home.
