Imperial Miss Beauty Pageant slated for Navasota Saturday
Navasota will host its first Imperial Miss beauty pageant this Saturday night June 21 at the high school auditorium. Five to seven judges from out of town will include former Miss Louisiana 1971 Avis Anne Bramlette and Miss America representatives who entertained troops in Vietnam and Thailand. The event features five age divisions with admission set at 1.00 dollars.

Roadblock halts burglary suspect
A 33 year old former Houston man living in Iola surrendered at a roadblock Sunday after fleeing from a mobile home he allegedly burgled. Thomas Foster Wojhan formerly of 980 Wakefield Street Houston was charged with the 7 55 p m burglary of a weekend mobile home owned by Chris Weirich Jr of 8505 Hammerly Street Houston. Deputy Sheriff Darby and others pursued the truck on Farm Road 1774 near Plantersville and at Anderson. The suspect yielded to officers, with a rifle and pistol later reported stolen in Cobb County Georgia and California respectively. Bond set at 5000 dollars, Wojhan confined to Gilines County jail at Anderson.

Body of Grimes' man found on SH30 roadside
The 29-year-old Grimes County man James Emory Bay of Roans Prairie was found dead on State Highway 30 sixteen miles west of Huntsville in Walker County after being struck by multiple vehicles. Bay, a former Navasota ISD teacher and real estate operator, was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities described the sequence of strikes and noted his truck was in a ditch nearby. Investigation ongoing. funeral services pending at Lindley Robertson Funeral Home.

During intermission of the Saturday night Youth Fair rodeo, awards were given to Rickey Schroeder and Kenneth Leiber of Anderson for Best Steer and Best Dairy records respectively.
