Grimes Boy Scout Swimming Meet Set For June 27
The Grimes district Boy Scouts of America will hold a swimming meet on Friday June 27 at the Navasota pool at 8 00 p m. Scoutmasters should enter every boy in events with no limit on entries per troop. Each boy can compete in up to five events across divisions beginners 11 18 Scout 11 13 and Explorer 14 plus. July 26 Date Set For Precinct Conventions
Grimes County Democratic precinct conventions will be held on July 26 at 3 p.m. at the precinct voting box location. The decision was made at the county Democratic executive committee meeting at the Anderson courthouse. Red Cross Swimming Classes Enroll 245 at Municipal Pool
Two hundred forty five youngsters are enrolled in Red Cross swimming classes at the municipal pool. Mrs. Robert Harris notes the session began Monday June 16 with 127 beginners, 85 intermediates, and 33 swimmers. Morning classes run 8 to 12 with four one hour periods. Instructors include Mrs. Roy S. Weaver Jr and others. this marks the fourth consecutive year of Red Cross swimming in the area.

City approves escalator rate ordinance for Gulf States
The Navasota City Commission, in a three to one vote, passed on second reading an escalator clause allowing Gulf States Utility to adjust rates with fuel costs. Only W E Gibson opposed. Mayor Sandall was absent due to illness. The ordinance also sets $100 monthly water pumping charges and $7,400 yearly street rental, amid broader franchise extensions and rate-justification powers for the city.

A fire completely destroyed a one story five room frame house owned by William Sheppard a Negro man at Washington Thursday around 12 30 p m. The Navasota Volunteer Fire Department rushed to the scene but could not save the dwelling. Cause of the fire remains undetermined.
