Kiwanis Radio Auction Slated Here Saturday

Grimes Countians will bid on 59 items valued at 2647.54 during the tenth Kiwanis Radio Auction over KWBC. Proceeds fund Kiwanis youth programs including a 600 scholarship for a Navasota High School graduate. Auction Central will be at Navasota Telephone Company.

Grimes County Youth Fair Opens For 3 Day Stand

Grimes County Youth Fair opens Thursday at Anderson's American Legion Fairgrounds for a three day run through Saturday. Events include swine judging at 8 am Thursday, two rodeo performances, and the announcement of the 1970 Youth Fair King and Queen. High point winners receive $125 scholarships. livestock auction draws buyers. Rodeo features bareback, calf roping, steer wrestling, barrel racing, saddle bronc, bull riding, and more with Wayne Barrett producing. Admission is 1.50 for adults and 0.75 for children under 12.

Pigeons Roost Amid Church Losses and Local Charities

In Grimes County a surge of pigeons follows the loss of two church homes as First Baptist education building and the old First Methodist sanctuary are demolished for a new facility. Mrs. Mary Moody resigns from Emergency Food and Medical Service after serving 129 diabetic cases and 148 elderly handicapped residents, logging about 1,200 miles monthly to deliver and assist with food vouchers. Julian Dickenson to Receive National Honor

Julian Dickenson adjutant general of Veterans of Foreign Wars and former Navasota resident will receive a Gold Plate Award. The American Academy of Achievement honors 50 national leaders for administrative achievement. He is a national guest at the 9th Salute to Excellence in Dallas June 25 to 27, with the banquet on June 27 at the Regency Ballroom, Fairmont Hotel.

Moody Resigns as Food Program Aide in Grimes County

Mrs. Moody submitted her resignation from the food program at a Grimes County advisory committee meeting Friday night in Trinity Lutheran Church parish hall. She said she enjoyed the work and believed the program is beneficial, but cited personal protection as the reason for stepping down.

Horse Show For Grimes Youths At Youth Fair

A special horse show for Grimes County youths will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday during the 18th annual Youth Fair at the American Legion Fairgrounds in Anderson. Points will determine this year’s high point boy and girl at the Youth Fair. All 4-H Club youngsters will earn points toward the District 4-H Horse Show set for July 11 in Rosenberg.

NISD plans new curriculums for 1970 71 term

Navasota Independent School District trustees approve six new high school courses and at least two elementary offerings for the 1970 71 term. New options include an office education vocational course with a 15 student lab, addition of French alongside Spanish, two Coordinated Vocational Academic Programs for boys and girls, home economics for girls, and two special education programs at the high school level sponsored by the Texas Education Agency and the Texas Rehabilitation Center.

Navasota Mayor and long-time City Commissioner C D Mc Kay relinquished his elected offices Monday night and won the bid for City Manager over the remaining Councilmembers in a unique local decision.

City Fathers Delay Action On Paving

Navasota officials postponed a decision on a $79,830 paving bid by Complex Inc for Judson Neal and Moore Streets after a bid came in about $13,000 above estimates. Bay Shore Engineering pegged construction at $66,900, while the City Manager post, vacant since May 25 resignation by Charlie L. Carter, remains in play as the Commission weighs future personnel actions. The closed session yielded authority to address municipal issues firmly.

Gulf States Utilities and IBEW hold marathon talks in Beaumont

Negotiations stretched into the night in Beaumont as Gulf States Utilities and striking International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers conducted a third marathon session. The eight week dispute idled about 2,200 workers from Baton Rouge to Navasota, with mediator Gayle Winewriter of Houston prompting the talks.

Highway Patrol Reports 17 Traffic Citations This Week

Texas Highway Patrolmen in Navasota report no major accidents for the week ending Monday. Seventeen traffic citations were issued. Patrolmen Claude Hart, David Burr, and Gary Flanagan filed charges against 14 motorists for driver's license violations. Two motorists were charged with driving while intoxicated and one adult cited for allowing a minor to drive.
