Ronald Hallmark 36, a Cisco native, named assistant water department superintendent for Navasota after two years with Cisco’s water and sanitation departments. He completed a 20 hour water short course at Abilene offered by West Central Texas Water Association and Texas A&M extension service. Previously self employed and a race horse trainer. The Hallmarks and their sons Alton 13 and Larry Don 8 reside at 1005 South LaSalle.

FFA To Host Welding Short Course

Grimes County Youth Fair Opens Thursday at Anderson
The 19th annual Grimes County Youth Fair kicks off at 10 a.m. Thursday on American Legion grounds in Anderson with judging of 4-H and FFA livestock. Entries include 35 fat barrows, 26 fat steers, eight beef heifers, 12 lambs, and 50 junior dairy animals. The 8:30 p.m. livestock and poultry sale follows a barbecued supper for buyers.

Governor Smith to Break Ground for Schult Plant
Gov. Preston Smith will wield a shovel at the groundbreaking ceremony for Schult Mobile Home Corp. at 4 40 p.m. Monday July 5. Attending will be Wm. Albert Miller James Grice George Spears and H W Haynie who visited the governor at the capitol. Senator Bill Moore and Rep. Bill Presnal will attend with Texas Industrial Commission officials and Schult representatives from Middlebury Ind. The $700000 plant is the largest in the Schulz system and includes three metal buildings 75000 square feet of space plus a railroad spur paving loading dock and fencing all to be completed by November 1 1971. Contract was let June 8 to Drymalla Construction Co of Columbus.

Tax Collector and 2 Others Hurt In FM Mishap
A rain slick on Farm Road 3090 caused two vehicles to collide at a blind curve 2.6 miles east of Navasota at 1 20 p.m. Friday. Tax Assessor-Collector Claude Jolly Jr. his 20 year old daughter Linda Cherie and 50 year old Mrs George Voelter were taken to Grimes Memorial Hospital. Jolly, 41, suffered chest injuries while his daughter had facial cuts and bruises but released Monday. Voelter received cuts and bruises and was later released.

75 Youngsters Begin Summer Head Start
Seventy five rising first graders at Navasota Elementary start a six week Head Start session. Al Crank, NsD director, says five teachers and five aides run 15 students per class from 8 to 1. Enrollment may grow. the $29,000 program runs through July 23 with meals, snacks, and free bus transportation provided.

City commissioners cut a three hour meeting to half and approved a 650 850 budget for 1971 72 with no discussion. The unanimous vote occurred after a brief session as officials noted a 60 400 increase over the current appropriation and no public comments were offered.

Navasota Independent School District hired three new faculty members for the 1971 72 term and accepted eight resignations Monday night. New hires include Bobby Graves a Giddings coach, Mrs Inez Fuqua a Sam Houston State University graduate and Mrs Laura Purcell a former elementary music teacher. Resignations cover eight staff including CVAE instructor Charles Honeycutt and several teachers. Board also called for bids from a depository bank and reviewed the new policy handbook.

Five Grimes burglars nabbed by sheriff
Five men were charged with two counts of burglary in Grimes County for May crimes. The suspects, four 20 year olds and one 18 year old, faced bonds of 5000 dollars. Among the targets were Plantersville Cafe, a Shadow’s Lake home, Yarboro Lake theft, Richards High School, and Nall Sander Jr residence. Sheriff Johnson reported loot recovered and more items expected.

County Bills Approved on 3 to 1 Vote
County Commissioner Sam Roberson of Bedias cast the lone dissenting vote against payment of the regular monthly bills during the June session in the Anderson Courthouse. He had earlier moved that a $1,200 bill from P P Prescott & Sons not be paid for work he said had not been authorized, a motion that died for lack of a second.
