R&B Fund Gets Boost Food Program OKed
Grimes County grand jury in session at Anderson returned six indictments including two burglaries three thefts and one assault with intent to murder. Judge Reginald Bracewell presided as Aubrey Lee Middlebrook and Frank M. Chavez pleaded guilty and received prison terms. Foreman Teddy Lowery led the 12 member panel. County officials discussed transfers of funds among Salary General and Road and Bridge Funds and approved purchases including an $800 sheriff radio and two air conditioning units. A new farm to market road alignment from Binford's Store to White Hall was approved for right of way contributions. The county food program was kept unchanged after a lengthy discussion.

The Navasota School Board awarded the depository contract for the next two years to The Security State Bank of Navasota, the only bid. They accepted two resignations Eddie Anderson and Mrs Barbara Parks. Superintendent Webb announced two additional teachers for the 1965 66 term based on attendance records. The Board of Equalization will meet June 29 and 30 at the school to hear tax matters.

A 66 year old farm laborer Leroy Freeman was killed by a single .22 rifle shot at 6 35 p m during a family argument at his cabin two miles west of Nava sota off Highway 90 His common law wife Ozell Wallace 45 was charged with murder by Grimes County Sheriff Dick Johnson Witnesses Carl Rush Robert Jackson and John T Harris testified Freeman had been drinking all day and was threatening Wallace In the house Wallace fired one shot as Freeman approached an open door Freeman died of a gunshot wound in the chest and Wallace was released on her own recognizance awaiting action by the Grimes County Grand Jury.
