School Board Hires Two Teachers For 1954 55
Navasota School Board in regular session Monday night hired two new teachers for the 1954 55 year. Mrs Grace Greenwood Boswell formerly of Plantersville and Mrs Jane Harris Corgey of Victoria were chosen. Boswell, an elementary teacher, is married to Lt John B Boswell USMC and will soon move to Lawton Oklahoma. Corgey will replace Miss Martha King as English and speech teacher at the high school.

Katherine Lindley Critically Injured In Auto Accident
Miss Katherine Lindley of Navasota was seriously injured in a Friday afternoon auto crash near Roans Prairie on Singleton road. The Studebaker overturned, trapping her. three local men freed her before she was transported to Brazos Valley Sanitarium. She later improved but remains hospitalized with head, chest, and back injuries. Lindley is longtime clerk at the Missouri Pacific freight depot and secretary to County Democratic Chairman H. N. Sandall.

Assault Charges Filed Against Two Washington Men
Two Washington men F. W. Wellmann Sr and F. W. Wellmann Jr faced separate assault charges in Brenham after an investigation into the beating of Washington County Commissioner Joe Bailey in front of the Washington post office on June 7. Both men were released on $1,000 bonds. Bailey suffered a broken arm and bruised shoulder and was hospitalized before returning home as investigators pursued the case ahead of the September grand jury term.

City Commission Delays Gas Rate Increase For Eighth Time

Rat Poison Distribution set for Friday June 25
Twenty seven applications for Warfarin rat poison have been received at the county agent's office per Henry Walters. About 350 pounds of poison will be distributed at the county agent's office in Navasota and at Anderson Richards and Iola on Friday June 25. It sells for 25 cents per pound with sacks of one or two pounds. Walters advises folding the sack top and prying a small hole to begin feeding the rats.

Dr S D Coleman of Navasota was elected a qualified fellow in the International College of Surgeons at the United States Section executive council meeting. The college, founded by Dr Max Thorek in 1935, will confer his degree at the convention on September 10 1954 in Chicago. City to run Saturday garbage route from 8 to 9 A.M
