In three years he built a tri champ district football team and mentored track athletes including state meet qualifier Richard Stone. He also coached basketball and golf and ran the summer pool. Two Navasota boys Richard Crawford 11 and Tommy Wheeler 9 depart by bus for Dallas to attend the Salvation Army Youth Camp for 8 to 15 year olds. The camp, run by the Navasota Salvation Army Service Unit, is funded by local donations and supports outdoor camping, crafts, swimming and Christian living under Salvation Army officers. Burglar Finds Safe Door Is Too Tough
A burglar, frustrated in opening Mallard Tractor Company's safe, stole a $250 air wrench and damaged the lower vault door. Entrance came through a back window. Sam Wood, parts manager, found the burglary Friday morning. A Bryan repairman spent time burning and removing the door for repairs.

John Sebastian Promoted to Utility Foreman at Conroe
Gulf States employee John Sebastian III of Navasota has been promoted to utility foreman and transferred to Conroe to supervise a new crew serving the growing electric customer base. The promotion is effective June 1 and continues Sebastian’s long Gulf States service since 1947 with prior roles in T and P and as lineman first class. He is a Plantersville native who served two years in the army from 1945 to 1946 before returning to Navaota and then Conroe.

Bill Patout a 15 year old son of Mr and Mrs R A Patout Sr suffered a slight brain concussion and a bruising injury to his right eye in a diving accident at the Navasota swimming pool last Wednesday afternoon He performed a watermelon dive from the 214 foot board when he doubled up and rammed his right cheek bone and eye after which he left the pool and rode home on his bicycle He was taken to Navasota Medical Center for treatment and later released from Brazos Valley Sanitarium on Friday.
