Grimes County Youth Fair closing night auction at Anderson saw Clarence Finke’s grand champion steer bring 1.11 per pound from Navasota Livestock Commission Company, as total sales reached 6880.54 dollars. Beef calves averaged 0.908 per pound on 2355.43 dollars, hogs 3936.61 dollars, lambs 379 dollars, and poultry 209.50 dollars. Numerous buyers including local businesses and residents purchased champions and reserve champions across steers hogs and lambs with prices per pound ranging from 52.50 to 177.5 cents.

Grimes County ASC committee set Friday June 23 as the final date to plant cotton under regulated programs. Raymond F Holmstrom says cotton must be planted in a workmanlike manner to qualify for payments. A recent county vote 169 to 168 rejected cotton acreage sales and leases outside the county. two thirds needed for approval. Holmstrom notes producers may still sell or lease within the county.

Howard Weaver Injured in Fall Unloading Bees
Howard Weaver suffered multiple broken ribs Saturday at 4 p.m. when he fell seven feet while unloading bees at his Howard Weaver Apiaries south of Navasota off Highway 6. His son Morris saw him fall backward from the seven foot platform. X rays at Grimes Memorial Hospital were performed to assess injuries.

Harris Breaks Leg In Horse Show Accident
Harris Scott Harris a Navasota High School senior and son of Mr and Mrs Robert A Harris splintered his right leg from thigh to knee at 10 30 a m Saturday during Grimes County Youth Horse Show when a horse threw a shoe in the rodeo arena. He said he cannot compete in the Hallettsville Championship Rodeo and will be in traction for four to six weeks and in a cast for six to eight weeks.

Big Creek Watershed Easement Presented
In a morning ceremony Mrs. Ruth Moore presented the first Big Creek Watershed easement to Wallace Dunlap of Millican. The $1,500,000 project will extend 15 miles from the Navasota River to the Brazos River in Brazos County with seven flood water retarding structures 24.4 miles of channel improvements and 110 grade stabilization structures. Construction is to begin before December 31 with board members Tom J. Moore Shields Prescott Wallace Dunlap and Donald Glover.

Lola Youth Sentenced To Five Year Probation
A Grimes County jury found Benny Perry of Iola guilty of statutory rape involving a 14-year-old Iola girl after a four hour deliberation. The 18-year-old received a five year probation term, with sentencing performed by the jury. Perry is one of three youths charged in the case alongside Thomas Dobyanski of Anderson and Ronnie Kolbasinski of Carlos.

New Fertilizer Plant Installed At Farm Center
Navasota's Grimes County Farm Center on 410 Farquhar Street began operation this week with a liquid farm and ranch fertilizer blending plant. Manager Al Curtis says it can supply straight nitrogen and custom blends, storing 22 ton and two 30 ton tanks, plus three special applicators and three nurse tanks for on farm service using Allied Chemical Arcadian Golden Uran fertilizer.

Keelan Has Outstanding Year As Dept Commander
The Veterans of Foreign Wars in Texas under Commander John Paul Keelan reports a 1967 state membership of 46 000, about 2 000 more than last year. Keelan, from Navasota, ends his term at the Corpus Christi convention starting June 23, with gains in Youth Activities, Community Service, Americanism, and Buddy Poppy sales.
