Youth Fair Program at American Legion Fairground Anderson

The Youth Fair outlines events across Thursday June 14 through Saturday June 16 at Anderson’s American Legion Fairground. In Navasota the 10 minute hailstorm of June 5 1973 caused extensive damage with jagged chunks ripping screens and smashing windows across homes churches and businesses. Library in Grimes County earns LSCA grant

Grimes County Library in Navasota won a $1000 Library Services and Construction Act grant from Texas State Library funds. The grant supports local improvement efforts and reflects growing public library cooperation under the 1969 Texas Library Systems Act. The city contributes $1 per capita, about $5200, with a goal of $6200 from the county, a request rejected by the Commissioners Court 3 to 2. Librarian Lou Hertenberger urged reconsideration.

Washington firemen plan July 4th barbecue

Members of the Washington Volunteer Fire Department sponsor an Independence Day barbecue on Wednesday July 4 from 11 30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Wellmans Recreation Center in Washington. Tickets cost 2 50 for adults and 1 50 for children, on sale at Navasota banks. Proceeds go to the Washington Fire Department for a new fire house and improved fighting equipment. tickets must be bought before June 27.

21st Grimes County Youth Fair Opens Thursday

The 21st annual Grimes County Youth Fair at the American Legion Fairgrounds in Anderson runs Thursday to Saturday June 14–16 with livestock judging at 7 a.m. and an 8:30 p.m. Saturday livestock auction. Rodeo events start 8:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday with bareback riding calf roping bull riding and more. Entries open 3–6 p.m. Thursday and 8–10 a.m. Friday. no advance entries. Prize announcements include the Youth Fair King and Queen and $125 scholarships to top boy and girl during Saturday's rodeo.

McGinty Named Deputy Sheriff in Grimes County

Sheriff John Darby announced the hire of Jack McGinty as Deputy Sheriff for south and east Grimes County. McGinty from Navasota Police will start June 15 at $510 monthly. Bill Foster becomes Chief Deputy at $540. The vacancy follows Kenneth Allen’s ousting May 16.

KWEC Will Broadcast 21st Grimes County Youth Fair Coverage

KWEC radio plans full three day coverage of the 21st annual Grimes County Youth Fair at the American Legion Fairgrounds Anderson. Bill Sullivan publicity chairman will give on scene reports and quick judging results with The Security State Bank of Navasota sponsoring timely reports and interviews. Broadcasts will air at random times as events conclude.

Bandit Forces Local Man to Borrow Ten Thousand

A well dressed armed bandit reportedly forced W E Reynolds to borrow 10000 dollars from Security State Bank in Navasota on a Wednesday. Two cashier's checks were issued, one cashed at Security State Bank and the other at First National Bank. Reynolds, released after 3 pm, reported the scene from Bond and Falco Attorneys. No arrests yet. investigation by Grimes County Sheriff's Department and Texas Rangers.
