City commissioners shelved the Warner Cable rate increase proposal and scheduled an open hearing for July 14 to hear public criticism of service and billing. Warner officials had asked for higher monthly fees and new installation and reconnection charges. The meeting also set bids for a new pavilion on August Hurst Country Club property and noted Fire Marshal Fuqua's resignation. Paul Scrivener will assume the post on July 1.

County Bicentennial parade set for July Fourth
Grimes County Bicentennial Committee announced plans for a Fourth of July parade to inaugurate the year. The event starts at Fanthorpe Inn, joins at Navasota Livestock Auction barn by 10 30 a.m., proceeding through Navasota to Highway 90 and the VFW hall, with some units continuing to Washington-on-the-Brazos State Park for the climax. A barbecue will be provided by 3 C's Barbecue of Bryan.

Grimes County Youth Fair radio coverage announced
Fall radio coverage of judging at the 23rd annual Grimes County Youth Fair will be sponsored by the First National Bank of Anderson Wednesday through Friday. Winners of Saturday events including the Open Junior Horse Show, Pet Show and Saturday night scholarship winners will be announced Sunday morning. On the scene reports will be made by Paul McKay from the Youth Fair office at the American Legion Grounds in Anderson. Live broadcasts will be heard when judging has been completed in each event.

Burglary Suspect Apprehended After Foot Pursuit
A 23 year old burglary suspect was chased by Police Chief Billy Campbell and Sgt. Henry Zaragoza through Navasota's business district early Tuesday. Three warning shots were fired. the suspect surrendered at City Hall and was booked on burglary charges. Evidence at Ayres Firestone Store included a loaded rifle and shells. The suspect, James Sonny Lowery, is an Ayres Firestone employee. Bond pending.
