Swimming Class Registration Slated Saturday
Five instructors for this year's Red Cross swimming classes were announced by Mrs. Robert A. Harris. Registration runs 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday before regular classes begin Monday. Kiwanis will auction 59 merchandise items worth 2268.40 on Saturday during the fourth annual Kiwanis Radio Auction aired from KWBC. Proceeds fund local boys and girls programs with last year’s grants including a $500 scholarship and $431 for youth groups. In light turnout Reginald Bracewell of Huntsville defeated John W. Phillips to win the 12th Judicial District judgeship. Bracewell led 5,603 to 4,757 in five counties with Grimes County tallying 1,029 to 715. Local runoffs saw E. C. Pritchett beat L. M. Gressett for Precinct 1 commissioner 401 to 329, and George C. Largent win constable Precinct 4 with 89 to 75. Joe Pool won U S Congressman at Large with 891 to 777 for Robert W. Baker.

Five farm acreage reporters are in the field this week measuring cotton and feed grain farms in Grim es County for the county ASC office. Madden To Be Ordained To Priesthood
The Episcopal Diocese of Texas approved the ordination of Rev Allan R Madden to the priesthood. The ordination by Rt Rev F Percy Goddard will occur Friday night June 26 at 7 o'clock at St Pauls Church in Navasota. Madden was ordained deacon June 19, 1963 and has served St Pauls as minister in charge for the past year. A separate city council note discusses traffic signals funding with figures for light costs and potential state reimbursement.
