Houston Youth Rodeo crowns all around cowboy and girl

Eighty three contestants competed in Navasota high school Youth Rodeo at Martin's Park. Paul Doss of Houston won all around cowboy after tying for first in bareback riding. Carolyn Cahoon of Houston won the girls barrel race in 17 seconds. Barbara Welch of Alvin named rodeo queen. Proceeds benefit the Roping Club and the Navasota FFA chapter.

Russian experts tour Navasota cotton breeding firm

Dr Lazar Volin led two Russian agricultural specialists visiting John D. Rogers Seed Co in Navasota at the request of a U S Government official. They expressed interest in private cotton breeding, observed the New Texacalan 6way cross field, and discussed breeding methods.

Lions endorse campaign for Old Washington museum memorial

The Lions International Council of Governors meeting in Galveston with District 2 5 2 endorsed raising one million dollars for a memorial museum at Old Washington on the Brazos. They urged successors to form a committee with Texas Independence Day Organization to push the plan into local schools. TIDO reps at the meeting included President Huron Hall of Navasota, directors Tom Whitehead and Herman L Zschappel of Brenham, Lloyd Gregory and Jim Etheridge of Houston.

Aerial Photographer Delayed by Plane Accident

A wire from Zekan-Robbins Photo Service in Harlan Iowa reports a pilot of aerial farm home photographs was delayed by a plane accident. It states he will depart immediately for Grimes County to resume work and deliver images within two weeks. Continued on back page.

Rev Asbury Lenox Reappointed To Navasota

The Rev. Asbury Lenox pastor of the First Methodist Church here was reappointed for a second year at the Texas Methodist Conference in Houston. Bishop A Frank Smith read pastoral appointments for about 440 ministers. Lenox was elected to the board of ministerial training and qualifications and to the board of managers of the Texas Pastors School for the ensuing quadrennium.

Aggie Youth Hurt as Car Crashes Near College Station

Julian D. Driscoll a Texas A M junior geology major was critically injured Saturday morning when his 1949 two door Chevrolet left Highway 6 five miles south of College Station struck a tree. Witnesses said no other vehicle was involved. He was taken to St Joseph's Hospital Bryan with a crushed chest and collapsed left lung as his car was declared a total loss.

Two Car Collision Near Navasota Causes Property Damage

A rear end collision on West Highway 90 six miles west of Navasota last Saturday at noon caused about 500 dollars in property damage. E H Bosse drove a 1955 Ford and was struck by a 1950 Pontiac driven by Wesley C Rittenhouse. No injuries reported. Rittenhouse faces charges for following too closely.

School Corrects Error on 1955 56 Average Award

Bible Schools Set Graduation Dates in Navasota
