Texas acreage totals about 6,000 in Brazos River bottom plus 2,000 in Hempstead to Brookshire. Sunflower yield around 1,020 pounds per acre, oil head 8–12 inches, seeds priced at 12 cents per pound. oil used by Frito Lay to extend fried product shelf life.

The 23rd Grimes County Youth Fair begins Wednesday at the American Legion Fairgrounds in Anderson. Livestock judging starts at 7 am in the new covered arena ahead of rodeo performances at 8 30 pm Friday and Saturday. Burglars Target Falco Furniture in Early Tuesday Break-In
Falco's Furniture at 207 W Washington was burglarized early Tuesday. Five or six black and white TVs, a color TV, and a stereo were reported missing. Entry, via a side alley door, damaged a 2x4 crossbar and a front show window. Two TVs were spotted at the Goodman Shoe Shop back door but later disappeared. One suspect was in custody.

Navasota Hosts Its First Flea Market Opening Saturday
Twenty exhibitors sign for Navasota's Tenth Street flea market with more than 18 stalls rented for Saturday and most spaces booked for Sunday. The Grimes County Chamber of Commerce sponsors, led by Bill Cleveland, with plans to expand weekly all summer. Items include wood products ceramics jewelry paintings flowers and second hand clothing. City sets $1,200,684 budget hearing

Leo E. Hatcher of 816 E Washington was appointed Grimes County adult juvenile probation officer by District Judge Jas F Warren and County Judge Ben F Swank Jr. He previously served 1946 onward with the Houston Police Department in multiple units and holds a University of Houston degree in police administration with psychology and sociology minors. His career includes Air Force service 1940 1945 and Coast Guard Reserves 1961 1964 as a lieutenant. His office will be in the Courthouse Annex at Anderson.

For the second time in less than a month Navasota Machine and Sales at 506 E Blackshear was burglarized sometime Monday night or early Tuesday morning owner and manager Paul Feagin discovered $50 in cash missing when he opened on Tuesday morning.
