One Dead Three Injured In Highway 6 Crash North Of Navasota
A morning crash ten miles north of Navasota on highway 6 involving two trailer trucks and a car left one man dead and three others hospitalized. Clifford J. Heffelfinger of Houston, 41, died at Brazos Valley Hospital after severe head injuries. His wife and 15-year-old daughter were hospitalized in good condition. their son was in Bryan hospital. Involved were Carl Gee and Sammy Owen of Electra and Bobby Johnson of Iowa Park with minor injuries. The lead truck driver Johnson described a swerve to avoid a Mexicans’ bobtail truck. the Mercury was destroyed. Heffelfinger’s body was at Lindley-Robertson Funeral Home.

Teague supports Ferguson Crossing dam debate and restudy
Congressman Olin Teague visited Bryan to discuss the Ferguson Crossing dam on the Navasota river. He said he favors a dam but noted the Corps may restudy the site, potentially delaying the project a year, and urged allowing Army Engineers to choose the site. Red Cross Swim Classes Slated June 16 to July 2
Mrs. Robert Harris, water safety chairman for the Grimes County Chapter of the American Red Cross, will lead annual swimming classes at the local pool from June 16 to July 2. Final Rites Held Wednesday For Luther Danford
Luther Danford 74, Roans Prairie resident, died Tuesday at Brazos Valley Hospital. Born May 13 1884 in Independence Texas, he was a lifelong farmer and rancher and Oak land Baptist Church member. Surviving include wife Annie Lou, daughter W H Taylor, son Bernard Danford, sister J S Murray, sister Ollie Davis, granddaughter Margaret Richardson, plus nieces and nephews. Funeral was Wednesday at Lindley Robertson Funeral Home chapel with Rev E H Crouch. Interment in Shiro Cemetery.

In Monday night Little League doubleheader the Cards beat the Giants 26 to 1 behind four first inning runs and 14 in the second with four more in the third. Neal Bosse won on the mound for the Cards as Kirkland scored the lone Giants run. Pirates edged Braves 12 to 11 as Hammec led a 13 hit attack with three hits. White's Charcoal Plant Loss Declares $2,000 Fire
An uninsured fire at Melvin White's charcoal plant on Piedmont road caused $2,000 damage Sunday at 1:30 PM. The shed, plant trailer, and small equipment were destroyed. Navasota firefighters fought the blaze for two hours, hampered by limited water supply from a tank truck. No injuries reported.
