Bible schools open Monday at five Navasota churches
Five Navasota churches will open two week Bible study programs Monday after public schools close. Parades and church groups will run mixed schedules from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. through June with sessions for children ages 4 to 14, plus music and devotional periods led by church staff.

Navasota will unveil its first Bargain Day next Wednesday with over 6,230 four page circulars mailed Monday to advertise the event. Forty merchants will participate in the monthly sale, and bonnet brigade activities plus Expo centennial notes appear in local coverage.

Stone to enter Rice Institute in fall
Richard Stone of Navasota, a standout athlete, chose Rice Institute for college and track. He received a four year track scholarship and is a 1954 NHS graduate. At NHS he starred in football and track, leading the 1953 football squad to tri district titles and placing second in both the 100 and 220 yard dashes at the state meet.

NHS places third in state essay contest as Navasota High School is recognized among three top schools. Thirty five students entered under Alma Westerman. Charles Bracewell won first place with $100, Rose Betty Benedetto earned third, Kay Lauter fifth, with prizes of $20 and $10.90 respectively. Over 7,000 students statewide participated.

City Policeman Causey Submits Resignation
City Policeman L. T. Bill Causey submitted his verbal resignation to City Manager M. B. Thomas this morning. Thomas said the move was voluntary. Causey joined the force on February 8.

Bryan Youth Charged With Felony Theft
Miss Caroline Woehler owner of Caroline's Jewelry Store on Washington avenue helped police arrest six Bryan youths Saturday night in a theft of a wedding ring set. Raymond Wichkoski previously of Bellville now in Bryan faced felony theft charges with a $1,000 bond. He confessed Sunday after detention by Grimes County Sheriff at Navasota jail. The ring was recovered at Ten Hall near Cypress following a tip and ring searches led by Sheriff Dick Johnson and Patrolman A L Bouldin at about 11:30 p.m. Saturday.

Miss Martha King English teacher and Robert L. Burdick science teacher have submitted resignations to Superintendent O. Dan Carter. King will return to Holly Grove Arkansas to teach next year. Burdick resigns to accept an assistant professorship at Texas A&M College and will pursue a Masters degree. Vacancies total five in the high school across science English social studies band and home making. Three vacancies exist in Navasota elementary for first and second grades and an elementary coach.

Cleveland Thomas Pleads Guilty To Hit-Run Charge
Cleveland Thomas, 34, pled guilty to a misdemeanor hit and run with property damage only and paid $66 in fines and costs in Justice Court. State trooper A L Bouldin filed the charge after Thomas struck the left rear fender of Jewel Lester Branch, 41, as Thomas attempted to pass on Highway 90 west of Navajo.

Burglars Rob the Bryant and Druckhammer Texaco

Nine Witnesses Heard In Justice Court Wednesday
Nine witnesses were subpoenaed by Justice of the Peace Ino R. Crittenden to appear at a Court of Inquiry held Wednesday afternoon regarding the recent theft in the boys dressing room at the swimming pool. Sworn statements were taken. it is hoped the information will clarify past thefts. Four witnesses reported their billfolds and money were taken while in swimming Tuesday afternoon May 25. Some stolen items were returned. the articles were found at the home of the juvenile identified by the four boys. County Attorney Hulon C. Hall then asked Sheriff Dick Johnson to notify the nine witnesses to appear before District Judge Max Rogers and County Judge Latham Boone Jr. at 9am Monday June 7 in Juvenile Court in Anderson.
