Fifty Thousand Six Hundred Contract For Ten Bed Wing
Odell Lueckemeyer Construction Company of Brenham was awarded a 50600 contract to build Grimes Memorial Hospital's new ten bed wing. The hospital board met in special session and approved the award. Construction should start immediately with completion planned in 140 calendar days. The expansion increases capacity to 40 beds and extends the northwest wing. County commissioners have given consent. no county funds will be used.

Houston Girls Escape Injury In Town Car Crash
Two Houston area girls escaped serious injury when their sports car overturned at 3:30 a.m. near George Washington Carver School on south Highway 6. Driver Sarah C. Levellen, 20, of Cypress, and passenger Juanita Dallatin, 17, of Houston, were pulled from a muddy ditch by bystander Clarence Hutchens and treated for minor cuts at Grimes Memorial Hospital.

Negro Youth Charged With Monday Burglary
A 17-year-old Navasota male, Richard Jones, was charged with felony burglary for stealing a .22 caliber pistol from Tex Radio & Electric on West Washington Avenue. Grimes County Sheriff Dick Johnson said Jones was arrested at his home near Grimes Memorial Hospital after tracking by Waller County dogs. Police recovered the pistol. the show window was smashed at 8:30 p.m. Monday. Jones had a cut finger and is jailed in Grimes County awaiting an examining trial later this week.

1081 Children Get Measles Vaccinations In Grimes County
Grimes County held a mass immunization drive for measles with 1,081 free shots given to children ages 12 months to 10 years. Dr. W. S. Conkling praised the effort as a success, noting the largest turnout occurred Thursday at three locations run by teams of doctors and nurses from the Grimes County Medical Association.

Suspected Thief Arrested After City Chase
A 26-year-old Houston man, Wil bert Ray Riley, was arrested after a high speed chase by Navasota Patrolman Daryl Fuqua. Riley, a former Californian, was captured east of the Navasota River bridge near Navasota. The stolen pickup belonged to George Flores of Texas City who said Riley tried to hire him to take him to Huntsville and Houston.
