Grimes County library launches a June 1 to June 10 fundraising drive to raise 25000 for a new building on Brewer Street. J B Hodge chairs the steering committee. 25 volunteers will solicit cash and pledges, with Dan Slater as architect. So far 8150 has been raised, including 420 from former residents, all funds to stay in Grimes County for the project.

Swimming Classes To Begin Monday In Navasota Pool

Tower Defeats Blakley For Senate Post
Grimes County voters backed a new $300,000 hospital and approved a $150,000 bond, 1128 to 391, aiding Hill Burton participation. In the county Ballot, Democrat Bill Blakley led Republican John Tower by 463 votes, but Texas wide, Tower won by about 8,000. Tower finished with 444815 to Blakley 436815, becoming Texas' first Republican U.S. senator.

Counselor's Salary Set At School Board Session
Navasota School Board met Monday night May 22 at the school auditorium and set the counselor salary at 5820 dollars per year. The board also accepted the resignations of three teachers and discussed appointing a new board of equalization.

Ceremonial to End Camp Fire Girls Day Camp Friday
A ceremonial at 7 o'clock Friday night will end Day Camp activities for 73 Navasota Camp Fire Girls and Blue Birds at the Camp Fire hut on the Anderson highway. Camp Fire and Blue Bird families will assemble at the hut Friday at 6 p.m. for a basket supper. This will be followed by the ceremonial during which the girls will receive award beads earned during the week. In charge of the ceremonial are Mrs. Dan Webber, Mrs. Bob Whitten and Mrs. H. C. Foskett with Mrs. W. J. Terrell as director, day camp got under way Monday morning and is continuing in session each day.
