Navasota Post Office oldest in Shreveport District
Postmaster Wilson Shire announced the Navasota Post Office is the oldest in the Shreveport District serving 451 offices in a region from Shreveport to Monroe as well as Texarkana Beaumont Brenham and Hearne. Funding was approved in 1915 with construction finished in late 1916 and occupancy in January 1917.

March of Dimes drive poised for 1974 start
The 1974 Grimes County March of Dimes campaign will begin in January as part of a six county effort. County Chairman Bill Cleve land has assisted since 1971 and says start date will be announced after a Brazos Valley session on January 6.

Wheeling Corrugating operation handles 300 tons monthly
Bob Deeslie tells Kiwanis at noon that Wheeling Corrugating's Navasota plant processes an average of 300 tons of culvert pipe monthly. Materials are shipped via Mid-Tex Metal to Houston Austin and San Antonio areas. The site stores 1 200 tons in padded areas and has added a new asphalt coating and a 25 000 pound fork lift to unload pipe from railroad cars.

Vultex Plant Under Construction in Navasota Park
Work is underway on a 50 by 100 foot steel Vultex Alloy Steel plant on Industrial Drive in the Navasota Industrial Park. The site includes railroad spur access and 8.311 acres bought last August by A L Rives, vice president. Vultex, based in Houston, holds a patent allowing heat treatment of manganese steels used in grader blades and other equipment.

Stocking masked robber robs Navasota liquor store
The Har rington Package Store on State Highway 6 north of Navasota was robbed at 8 45 p.m. Thursday by a stocking masked man about 5 8 tall 160 pounds dressed in a green trench coat. He escaped with about 500 in cash a pint of whiskey cigarettes and a pocket knife. A 1963 Oldsmobile was used in the getaway with an accomplice. A customer helped transport another employee to the scene and reported the hood of the car was raised to look disabled. Authorities described the getaway vehicle and noted checks and $20 bills remained.

Robbers Take 1500 Dollars From Washington County Liquor Store
A Washington County liquor store owner was robbed of 1500 dollars and tied with wire by two armed men on December 18 at 7 50 p m. They fled in a foreign made car. The suspects took liquor cigarettes guns and cash. Police searched area roadblocks and fingerprint efforts continued with Texas Ranger Quinn and Deputy Rosenbaum assisting.
