Monday Noon Blaze Destroys Cleere Home in Navasota
A hand iron in the living room sparked a blaze that gutted the home of Mr and Mrs Jim Cleere at 713 Nolan Street Monday at 12 45 pm. Sparks ignited drapes and a Christmas tree while the maid and Celia Cleere escaped unharmed. Sandy Cleere alerted others but could not enter through the kitchen door. Firefighters controlled the fire quickly though interiors were ruined by fire smoke and water. Most presents were stored downtown.

Vernon Oscar Ross of Dallas was charged in Grimes County with a Oct 4 pigeon drop swindle involving $85 from Jesse James of Navasota. Ross, with an accomplice, was arrested in Brenham and awaits Grand Jury action. a second Houston man faces related fraud charges. Police and Texas Ranger Bud Newberry assisted the investigation.

Firefighters Tackle Warehouse Blaze Smoldering Since Wednesday
At 6 30 p m firemen returned to the warehouse section of the store to extinguish a fire that had apparently smoldered among sacks of range cubes since Wednesday. Damage on the second alarm was confined to several sacks of feed and a hole in the storehouse floor.
Fire damages S and S Farm Store in Navasota
Gasoline used to clean a sewing machine sparked a fire at 6 p.m. Wednesday December 18 at the S and S Farm Store on the corner of 10th and McAlpine streets. Firefighters from Navasota used four units and blocked streets for over an hour. Eric and Leora Eickenhorst and daughter Barbara were inside and escaped with minor burns to Mr Eickenhorst who doused the flames.

UF Drive Officially Ends on Happy Note
Officials of the Navasota and Grimes County United Fund in a special session closed the 1963-64 drive. The year raised 13,529.74, the largest since 1955, and all participating agencies were paid in full. Treasurer's report shows initial balance 3,346.55, balance at Dec 18 15,641.43, plus 1,226.50 in 1964 pledges, totaling 16,867.93.
