32 Awards Presented During 4 H Achievement Program
Grimes County 4-H members received thirty two awards at the annual awards program held at the Anderson courthouse. Senator Neva Leigh Colson of Navasota presented Gold Star awards to Jimmy Finley of Iola and Barbara Molitor of Anderson. Finley presided as master of ceremonies. Awards covered categories including Achievement Beef Clothing Dress Revue Foods Nutrition Leadership Swine Citizenship and adult leader certificates.

Harris A. Smith was elected chairman of the Navasota City Planning Commission at a Monday meeting in the City Manager’s office. C.N. (Bud) Powell, licensed civil engineer and partner in J. Youens & Co., was elected vice-chairman. The commission recommended Milroy Terrace subdivision be submitted for approval at the next City Commission meeting regarding utilities for streets curbs gutters water and natural gas.

Directors of the Security State Bank of Navasota last week declared a 15 per cent cash dividend for stockholders. The directors also voted to pay all officers and bank employees a Christmas bonus equal to one month's salary.

$17,000 contract let on old hospital project
J Youens & Co of Navasota began a $17,000 contract to convert Brazos Valley Hospital into the Grimes Memorial Convalescent Home. The remodeled complex, to be connected by an enclosed brick walkway to the Grimes Memorial Hospital, will include 14 hospital rooms and 28 convalescent beds. Administrator Calvin Spencer said completion should occur in about sixty days with several reservations already requested.

The Chamber of Commerce appoints Ed Mickan Leonard Dickschat Kenneth Clary Jerry Lane and R M Love as five new directors to join existing holdovers. They will meet in January to set the 1964 program of work. The Grimes County Commissioners accepted the new $425 000 facility after a final inspection led by the architect. Patients will move Friday from Brazos Valley Hospital to the new Grimes Memorial Convalescent Home and hospital annex while remodeling continues on the old facility.
