The Navasota PTA sponsors a Christmas Caroling Party Monday at 7 p.m. in the High School Auditorium. Mrs. Gerald Purcell directs with accompanists Mrs. Mark Baker and Mrs. Hollis Hood. Students perform rhythm bands, the Twelve Days of Christmas, a candlelight procession, and solos in Gesu Bambino and O Holy Night.
In session Monday morning Grimes County Commissioners voted unanimously to contract with the Texas Department of Public Welfare to provide foster services by law. The Court also created a seven member Grimes County Child Welfare Board from the former committee with Latham Boone II as chairman and other officers. The board’s primary goal is to provide foster homes for abandoned and neglected children and an emergency fund of $1000 was set up to assist selected foster parents.
Daily 5 p.m. readings for the preceding 24 hours provided by Henry Fuelberg. Local contributions of 250 dollars each come from Grimes County via the Commissioners Court and community groups. The county transfers child welfare duties to the state and places the Child Welfare Board under County Commissioners Court authority through a Texas Welfare Department contract.

A 35-year-old Brenham brick mason, formerly of Portland Oregon, died early Sunday when his car rear ended a goose-neck cattle trailer on the Brazos River bridge west of Navasota. Lonnie Titus Keith was pronounced dead at the scene. The truck pulling the trailer was driven by James Harrington II of Navasota. Harrington and a Houston passenger survived but Keith died from massive head and chest injuries. No charges were filed.
Chancel choirs from First United Methodist and First Presbyterian churches with their children's choirs present their annual Christmas program Sunday December 19 at 7 p m in the Methodist sanctuary under director Robert Bostwick. Soloists Judy Abbey Boyd Sinclair and Mr Bostwick with Bill Thomas on organ. A reception follows in the new Fellowship Hall. Public invited.
Donald Davis owner of the 3D Jersey Farm in Brenham will hold a dispersal sale Saturday December 18 starting at 12 noon Reese Auction Service handles the event. He is downsizing his dairy operation selling the Brenham herd of grade cattle Cattle can be inspected before sale time. To reach the farm drive off Highway 290 onto Farm Road 389 five miles then turn south near Neu mann's Place one half mile to the dairy.
The Brazos County Commissioners Court voted unanimously to join the BVDC Teletype Network with Navasota. The $72.40 monthly cost is 25 percent county funded, 75 percent by the Criminal Justice Department. The system links seven counties to the statewide teletype network, cutting message transmission time from hours to seconds. A two year experiment, with no obligation after completion, ends February 1. A new high frequency radio net is planned for local enforcement with a four channel system for the Sheriff and city units.
Washington Avenue and Farquhar Street merchants back a Chamber of Commerce plan to cut downtown parking angle from 45 to 23 degrees. President Jimmy Grice and Manager Horace Selman presented a 63-signature petition to Navajo City Commission after a traffic study with Texas Highway Department input. The plan aims to create four through lanes and add a large all-weather parking area immediately north of the district.
Loyd James Bingham 46, partner in Turner Pierce Bingham Inc, died Saturday at M. D. Anderson Hospital Houston after a long illness. Funeral services were held Monday at 3 p.m. in First Baptist Church with Rev James F Bond and Rev Robin Guess officiating. Interment in Oakland Cemetery. graveside services by Navasota Lodge No 299 A F and A M.
More than 2,300 students in the Navasota Independent School District will start their Christmas and New Year holidays at 2 30 p m Tuesday December 21 Supt John C Webb announced buses will run at that time Students return to class on Monday January 3
John C Webb superintendent of the Navasota Independent School District received his doctorate in philosophy at Texas A&M University campus ceremonies. His major was administration with study in psychology and architectural drawing. Commencement at 9 a m in G Rollie White Auditorium was attended by Mrs Webb and their children Cindy and John along with his mother Mrs Clyde Webb of Navasota. He holds a bachelor of science in industrial arts and a master’s degree.
