Man Wounded by Pistol Shot in Apartment Yard
A 30-year-old mechanic and welder at Gifford-Hill & Company, Robert Womack, was hospitalized in serious condition after a single .22 caliber pistol shot to the chest behind a residence at 817 Holland Street. Police found the pistol in the living room. the incident, reported at 8:45 p.m., remains under investigation.

Youth, 19 fined for narcotics
A 19-year-old Washington Negro youth pled guilty to possessing less than two ounces of marijuana and was fined 250 dollars plus county costs. The plea occurred before Judge H. W Haynie at the Grimes County Courthouse in Anderson, after arrest by Navasota Officer A. E Sledge. He was given a magistrate's warning at Navasota City Hall.

Train Derailment At Iola Triggers Tank Car Alert
The Rock Island Line freight train Extra No. 4588 derailed eight cars after hitting a weak track at 5 15 a m Saturday near Iola Texas. One derailed tanker contained tetraethyl lead and prompted evacuation of about six families within 500 yards as crews worked to prevent danger. No injuries were reported.

Navasota School Board prepares for Thursday at 6 p.m. bid openings on a proposed new high school complex costing about 1.673 million dollars. Trustees hope bids stay near the estimate despite rising material and labor costs. options may be added or removed to meet the target. The project covers a 10,000 square foot building on a 36 acre site near State Highway 6 bypass with Highway 90 frontage. Construction aim is to complete by mid term of the 1974 75 school year, January 1975.
