Bob Whitten explains the Highway 6 loop exits require slow speeds due to near ninety degree intersections with service roads. The S curve into the service road allows choosing left or right. Spokesmen say normal exit speeds are safe, but many service roads are unpaved stubs with unclear two way traffic, causing confusion and hazard.
The city commission studies traffic flow on Highway 6 business route in Navasota as delays persist on North and South LaSalle. Morning congestion peaks Saturday 8 to 12, and weekday 8 am 12 noon and 5 pm, affecting the downtown business district.
The NHS SOS Club hosts an art show December 9 from noon to 3 PM in the High School Cafeteria. Entries from Middle School Junior High and High School will be judged with $5 prizes for first place and ribbons for second and third. Proceeds support Stamp Out Stupidity in drug abuse prevention.
In mild weather on Saturday, 55 percent backed a 2.03 million dollar bond for Navasota Independent School District. The measure passes 462 to 374, funding a new air conditioned high school for 750 students, full air conditioning for the middle school, and conversion of the old high school into a junior high. Brule Field improvements, lighting, and a press box are included, with 18 percent of the tax increase directed to maintenance and operation and the rest to debt service.
Trustees and administrators meet with their financial advisor and architect to set priorities and a timetable for a 2 030 000 building and renovation program approved by voters. Bonds to be sold mid January for best rates. First work expected: Brule Field lighting and press box before 1973 season.
The Anderson Historical Association invites the public to a candlelight tour Saturday and Sunday, December 9 and 10, from 5 to 9 p.m. Tickets are $1. Tours begin at the Courthouse with groups of ten to twelve visiting sites including Steinhagen Log Cabin, First Methodist and Baptist Churches, Martin Cone House, and the old Preston Hotel. The route ends at Oberkampf Drug Store for hot wassail and gingerbread as Anderson lights up with luminaries and 1830s era decorations.
Navasota's annual Christmas parade is set for Tuesday December 12 at 5 30 p m with parade marshal Robert A Harris urging entries be ready by 5 pm at the Band Hall The lineup includes the Sheriff's Department Navasota Police Department VFW Post 4006 color guard and many local clubs churches and groups Entries known include U S Navy U S Marine Corps House of Poodles Texas All Jersey Club and more Floats will prize 75 50 and 25 for first second and third Originality and beauty are judging criteria The chamber invites further sponsors and notes no horseback riders or commercial floats The 5 30 pm start aims to let residents view and return home early

A 15-year-old Houston youth was wounded in the right thigh when a deer rifle discharged while being removed from a pickup near Plantersville. Cecil Lee Mack Jr. was hit by a 30.06 bullet and rushed to Grimes Memorial Hospital at 7:20 p.m. by his father. City Officer Eddie Downs said Melvin Bagley of Houston was handling the rifle. The incident occurred on the Charlie Thompson Place near Plantersville. Officer A. E. Red Sledge assisted with the investigation.
A 23 year old Houston man Delvin Clemons, hospitalized temporarily for an unauthorized leave, was arrested in Houston on two burglary complaints. One alleges breaking and entering at a bus station with intent to commit burglary, the other night time entry at Lou Herbertin g Inc. Justice of the Peace E T Ketchum Jr set bonds at 2500 each. Clemons was returned to the state hospital in Austin.
The Episcopal Diocese of Texas announces a 1973 summer camping program at Camp Allen a 600 acre site 14 miles southeast of Navasota on FM 362 Grimes County near the Waller county line Purchased by the church five years ago the plan includes lodge houses on stilts a swimming pool bath house a baseball field a lake and hiking trails Two campsites will be started soon each able to accommodate groups
The December edition of Community on KWBC will examine welfare operations in Grimes County, detailing services, accomplishments, and needs. Moderator R Discher will host Bernard Danford and Grimes County Welfare Department staff as guests with a listener hotline for questions during the program.
NavaSota High School concert band directed by John Baggett will perform a 30 minute Christmas program Friday December 15 from 10:30 to 11 am in the High School Auditorium with no admission charge and parents invited. Navasota Junior High School band under Ottmar Schimek will present a similar program on Wednesday December 20 at the same school.
East Washington Avenue lit up with a tall yule tree donated by Roans Prairie resident August Kelby for the city of Navasota. City Manager C D McKay issued a plea after initial searches failed, prompting help from nearby communities. City workers with Navasota Telephone and Gulf States Utilities installed and lit the tree last week.
