Jaycee Toys for Toys drive kicks off in Navasota
Navasota Jaycees have launched a Toys for Toys drive for Christmas. Project chair Henry Zaragoza and President Roy Nichols urge residents to donate repairable toys such as dolls bicycles and tricycles to raise holiday spirits. Collection boxes appear downtown with a drop-off at Guarantee Paint and Body Shop 411 East Dickson Street. Call Mark Bouliane after 4 p.m. at 825 7630 for free pickup if unable to reach a drop location.

Charges filed in shooting incident here
A complaint charging H. L. Whitley Jr. of Bryan with attempted murder was filed with Justice of the Peace Everard Ketchum by Mrs. Charles Hughes, a former wife of Whitley. The shooting occurred at 2:30 p.m. near the LaSalle monument on East Washington Avenue. Hughes said she fired back. Whitley surrendered to Brazos County officers, received a warning at College Station, was returned to Navasota, and released on $5,000 bond by Judge Ketchum.
