Lavel Williams a 25 year old Negro man of Navasota suffered a broken leg at 8 50 p m Sunday when struck by an automobile while walking on State Highway 105 between Joseph Fisher s Service Station and the Wildcat Inn No charges were filed against Sam Mitchell Jr of Route 1 Anderson driver of the car according to City Policeman Red Sledge Mitchell was driving east when he sighted Williams and swerved left knocking Williams into a bar ditch He was rushed to the hospital where he was discharged Tuesday morning.

Opening of Grimes County Library Draws 250 Guests
More than 250 people attended the formal opening of the Grimes County Library Building Sunday afternoon from 3 to 5. John C. Webb presided at the ribbon cutting at 3 p.m. W. E. Barron presented a new flagpole and flag for the library on behalf of VFW Post No. 4006. Navasota Camp Fire Girls led the Pledge of Allegiance, Rev. Robin Guess gave the invocation, County Judge H. W. Haynie spoke for the county, and Mayor Gene Sanders for the city. Speakers praised the library building committee, library board, and friends of the library. Webb introduced board members and annette Moore, assistant librarian, with tribute to Lou Hertenberger. Out-of-town guests included Mrs. L. J. Beaumier, Brenham Library. Mrs. Clara J. Grass Fire Burns 125 Acre Navasota Tract Sunday
Firemen Tim Burns and Mace Meekins aided by over a dozen residents battled a five hour grass blaze Sunday afternoon at Fred McGilberry’s place north of the SH 90 overpass. More than 125 acres of cut pine timber burned before a bulldozer and forest service plows helped contain it by 6:30 PM.

City Receives Delivery on New Spreader Box
V. P. Massaro, director of public works, announced delivery of the citys new spreader box for seal coat and asphalt paving. Crews have treated unpaved streets with RC 2 oil to curb dust after stabilizing with gravel. Mayor calls crash plan to tackle Navasota water shortage
Navasota Mayor Gene Sanders convened the City Commission at 5 p m to push a crash program for the water crisis. Water Superintendent QC A Weidner warned that without heavy rain the city cannot refill supplies, with storage tanks near empty. The plan would move 11 000 from the paving fund, funded by a water meter 50 cent monthly fee, to emergency water efforts. The discussion noted need for an additional well and 500 000 gallons more storage, but the adjournment left the proposal in limbo as only three members were present. City Manager Garrison will arrange contractors for next Monday meeting.
