The L B Foster Company announces the Navasota plant will begin operation in early September with 25 employees to start. A 8,000 square foot steel facility in the Industrial Park will house production of steel pipe fittings railroad accessories and construction products for petro chemical and water industries.

Committee Affirms Millicon Dam for First Construction
A joint House Senate conference committee on Thursday endorsed the U S Army Corps of Engineers plan to build two dams on the Navasota River with the Millicon Dam chosen as the site for the initial construction and an estimated cost of 58.6 million dollars.

The Millican No 2 Site dam would be built upstream, with initial appropriations anticipated for the 1970 fiscal year beginning July 1, 1969, and a reservoir extending toward State Highway 21.

City Begins Airport Improvement Project in Navosta
A city crew started the first phase to upgrade and relight the August Horst Airport on West Highway 90. City Manager Charlie L. Carter said three road machines are building sloping shoulders beside the 50 by 2,500 foot runway. Navisota plans to extend the runway to 4,000 feet by purchasing more acreage at the south end. Materials to replace the night runway lights are ready for installation.

Bill Hollenbeck will coordinate the vocational agriculture department at Navasota High School for the next school year. He moved from Whitesboro and will be joined by Charles Floyd, L. O. Jessie, and Ray Easterling. Remodeling includes paneling updates and ceiling lowered areas, plus new steps and painted rest room. All four staff will attend a vocational agriculture in service conference August 13 to 16 at the Terrace Motel in Austin.

Roans Prairie Man Killed in Bus Car Wreck
A 73 year old Roans Prairie man Myles Mooring died when a Greyhound bus collided with his auto at 3 p.m. Saturday five miles west of Houston on U S Highway 290. The crash left 13 others injured and the Mooring vehicle pushed into a parked foreign car. Mooring was thrown clear and pinned beneath the wreckage.
