Miss Shirley Waterhouse daughter of Mrs Frank Waterhouse of Pleasant Avenue won the Miss Cinderella title Saturday night in Beacon Valley Grange first weekly contest. More than 100 local girls competed with runner up Miss Kathryn Jurwisien of Beacon Falls. Judges from Naugatuck Seymour and nearby towns selected winners on appearance neatness and personality. The event included a grand march led by Waterhouse and escort Theodora Sandora. The queen will be chosen from the five winners at a later ceremony with ladies in waiting. The dance promotes wholesome recreation under Grange supervision across communities including Maugatuck Beacon Falls Pleasant Valley Seymour Woodbury and more. Waterhouse is a Nau graft high school graduate and Jurwisien is with U S Rubber Co.
Wage discussions on rubber wages move to a Big Four basis with the CIO calling for 24 7 hour negotiations through Big Four firms or company groups. The International Rubber workers union aims to restore living standards and reopen the general wage question.
Exalted Ruler Kazemekas of the Naugstuck Lodge announces a new slate of officers to be nominated at tomorrow night’s 8 o’clock meeting in the lodge rooms. After the business portion, a social hour with refreshments follows. Local deeds show transfers of a house and lot on Locust Street and Rubber Avenue to new owners.
Coroner William F. Jones of Waterbury announced that John Micklewicz of 119 School Street died of natural causes after an autopsy by Dr. Edwid Kirschbaum. The medical examiner attributed the death to natural causes. the case is closed, with investigation concluded.
Mrs Helen Synnott wife of John Synnott of 267 Meadow Street died yesterday morning in St Marys hospital after a brief illness. Born in Naugatuck she was a daughter of the late MIGHSE and Hen Moroney ODonnell and was educated in thorough schools. She was a bookkeeper for Brennan's Grocery on Church Street. Survived by her husband two sisters Mrs Slater Antonio of St Elizabeths Convent Middle town and Mrs Fred Riley of Naugatuck and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 915 oclock from C H Green Funeral Home 66 Terrace Avenue with a high Mass at 10 oclock at St Francis Church burial in St James Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home this evening after 7 oclock and tomorrow afternoon from 2 to 6 oclock and tomorrow evening after 7 oclock.
Naugatuck public schools are closed for an early spring recess this week with classes suspended through Friday. St Francis and St Medwig parochial schools continue classes. parish pupils observe religious holidays with no early spring break. Believed nearby Bescon Falls closed last week while Center and Nywmph schools resumed this morning.
Center School Parents Teachers Association will hear Edith Cushman of the State Department of Education speak at the March 11 meeting. The program includes discussion of administration costs equipment and problems of four hot lunch programs in Beacon Falls schools. The meeting starts at 4 o clock.

Warden Harry L. Carter proclaims March 1948 as Red Cross month as the Naugatuck chapter opens its 1948 name campaign with a $27,260 quota. The document urges every citizen to contribute generously to the humanitarian Red Cross effort aiding disaster victims armed forces and local welfare services.
Robert Russett, 25, of 67 Aetual Street, arrested at 10 30 last night by Sgt Richard Ostrom on a technical breach of the peace charge. Granted a sentry advance to tomorrow morning for borough court appearance. Held under $1,000 bond. Police report the case involves a minor girl.
Connecticut delegates at the National Veterans Housing Conference in Washington urged Congress to pass the Waft-Dlender Wagner housing bill. Three Naugatuck men and other state leaders supported a report criticizing slum areas and urging action. Delegates later meet Senators Taft McCarthy Ellender and Foley and plan to brief at the closing session.
Mir and Mrs Vincent P Serella of New Haven road are the parents of a daughter born this morning at Mary’s Hospital. The couple were victims of a fire that destroyed their City Hill street home during one of January’s coldest days. The Serellas have another daughter, Kathleen, 19 months old.
The provisional Wallace committee plans an April third founding convention in New Haven at the New Haven Arena. Chairman Thomas I Emerson announces the convention will back Henry A Wallace for president and Senator Glen Taylor of Idaho for vice president. Delegates will come from Wallace groups with one seat each. Emerson says liberal Congressional gains will be discussed.
