Longshoremen and deck crews at White Star and Pacific lines joined a coastwise strike, halting all dock work and leaving ships idle. Within an hour after trucks were abandoned, crews of all docked vessels walked off in solidarity with the dock workers, with no effort to deploy strikebreakers.
A clash between strike breakers and rioters broke out on the Clussow Glastow docks on June 28. Police intervened with charges, ending the hostilities and injuring several rioters. Numerous arrests were made.
At a formal farewell for Ambassador Hill, German officials praised his three years of service. Chancellor and officials conveyed regret as Hill noted American adherence to practical realities and the hope for future international cooperation. Attendees included Delbrueck, Trott Au Sorts, and other ministers. menus bearing signatures were later signed.
Chicago reports a bitter struggle within the National Education Association to abolish the national council. Boston, June 28. Jimmy Conway a 13 year old boy was arrested after police charged him with playing baseball on Sunday. He appeared in police court and spent a night in jail for bail set at 200 dollars. His mother later secured bail and he was released.
Vincenzo Stazzio hawked coal beer from a wagon on Westville streets drawing many customers. He demonstrated real lager from two kegs but was charged with selling liquor without a license. Stazzio, of 270 Water Street, posted a $200 bond.
Washington reports the joint resolution for a constitutional amendment to allow direct election of senators will be sent to conference. Senators Clark Wyoming Nelson Bacon named as conferees from the Senate. The Bristow substitute was supported by Clark and Nelson but opposed by all. a prolonged struggle between factions is anticipated as talks progress without clear agreement.
Pittsfield Mass June 28 The first wedding in fifty years occurred in Mount Washington with Rev Milton Whittler of Brookfield Center Conn marrying Miss Laura Reid Schutt a prominent Mount Washington resident The town has only thirteen voters and this union marked a rare event in its history.
Bridgeport reports coroner finds engineer Elliott Beach of Woodmont negligent for the June 66 New Haven road crash. Beach and five other trainees died in the wreck after running past signals. coroner Wilson’s finding released today.

In Chicago on June 28 C Is Duggan, described as a wood fellow by police, was arrested in Indianapolis by Deputy Sheriff M W Roberts of Polk County Iowa for wife abandonment and held at Harrison street station. They later headed for a Park county train but drank and missed it, spending a night together. Duggan towed the deputy sheriff back to the station and claimed he was his prisoner. The pair were locked up, with Duggan noting the deputy’s intoxication and suggesting he stay until sober. The Chicago police view of a “good fellow” is questioned by the incident.
Howard Starr, 25, planned to search for Captain Kid treasure in South Norwalk harbor when Captain A A Gibes discovered him. Starr altered Gibes boat by removing the sail and hiding the ship’s name, then was arrested. Starr had recently been released from Bridgeport County jail after a prior sensational claim of heading to the North Pole.
San Francisco report of a Needham Massachusetts girl named Cushing who jumped from the seventh floor of a hotel after arriving from Honolulu. She left a note reading Notify Co K Cushing Needham Mass. No motive given for the death by own action.

Washington reports the White House team led by President Taft and Secretary Knox lost a sprint to protection in a thunderstorm at Chevy Chase Club. General Clarence Edwards and Major Butt outpaced Taft and Knox to the caddy house as wind rain and hail interrupted the golf match.
