A mass exodus of residents starts this weekend with travel to beaches and lakes over Saturday to Sunday. Preparations include yard work and closing of several borough businesses for the Fourth of July as offices and stores observe holiday schedules.
Principal Edward Kehoe announced that individual schedules for FE school students must be submitted by July 3. The notice appears in a London publication dated July 27. An ad in the London paper offers a broadster for sale at 620 dollars.

In Phoenix today, investigators will question Richard Thomas who claims he kidnapped and killed six year old Suzanne Degnan. A Chicago hospital supervisor says Thomas worked the night of the murder and could not have been involved, challenging the alleged guilt.

Ben Randall a Naugatuck High student and camp counselor in training at a State Y M C A camp in Maine underwent an emergency appendectomy at Central Maine General Hospital Lewiston Maine. The operation was reported successful. His father Chester Randall will travel to Maine for the weekend to visit.
Due to ill health Theodore Ciarello resigns as manager of the Millville A A hardball team in the Sunday Amateur League. Albert Brewer, president of the organization, will assume duties as manager for the remainder of the season.
Daniel Lee of Main Street Beacon Falls was fined 500 dollars and sentenced to six months in the New Haven county jail for pool selling in Waterbury Superior Court. He was among eight men sentenced before Judge Howard Alcorn with other sentences from six to eight months and probation after serving, except Lee. Sentence was deferred until July 6 to allow Lee to arrange a six months leave of absence from his employer, the U S Rubber Co, per his counsel Atty John Haley.
Michael J Casey 76 of 46 Ward Street former Naugatuck Chemical employee died yesterday afternoon at St Marys Hospital. Born in Ireland he lived in the borough 35 years retiring from the Naugatuck Chemical seven years ago. He was an Ancient Order of Hibernians member. He leaves two nephews James J Casey of Naugatuck and Michael Casey of New Haven and two nieces Mrs Livio Stechini Boston Mass and Mrs Frances Budzinack Meriden. Funeral from his home Saturday at 10 to St Francis Church for 10 30 Mass with burial at St James Cemetery. Burial will follow in St James Cemetery. Friends may call after 7 tonight. Santiago Chile June 27 UP The 58 year old Juan Antonio Rios president since April 1942 died after a six months illness. His death leaves Chile in political confusion with a new president to be elected within 60 days.
Patrolman Harris Burke of the local police department at 193 Maple Street will return to duty tomorrow after a 14 week absence following an operation in a New York hospital. Police Chief John J. Gormley announced the resumption of duties.
Auditors Enust Everett Cambria report the Naugatuck borough’s financial condition worsened in the year ending March 31 1946. They urge rapid revaluation of assessable property to raise revenue and justify a higher adjusted tax rate while noting prior overexpenditures and a looming deficit.
