Woodbury Man Michael P. Jordan 69 Dies After Brief Illness

Michael P. Jordan of Bear Hill Road died Sunday at Waterbury Hospital after a brief illness. Born in Ireland February 10, 198, he spent over 20 years in Woodbury. Henry Zawistowski of Terryville died suddenly Friday at his home from natural causes. Mrs Elisabeth Belden Buckland 74 of Ld Harald St widow of Nelson T Buckland died Thursday at her Hartford home after a long tenure as secretary for the American Legion Department of Connecticut. She leaves four nephews including Robert H Baden of Naugatuck and a niece Elisabeth B Donovan of East Hartford. Funeral services were held today at Rose Hill Funeral Home in Rocky Hill with burial in Memorial Park Rocky Hill.

Francis Tammany obituary in Waterbury

Two Men Die In House Fire In Branford

In Branford Connecticut a fire killed two men and injured none of the others despite ten people, seven guests, sleeping inside at South Montonese Street. Police identified victims as Michael Shay aged 19 and Gregory Graham aged 20. The blaze began in an overstuffed chair on the front porch shortly before 4 30 am and eight residents escaped, one leaping from a secondary window.

Federal pressure tests Connecticut auto inspection plans

Connecticut lawmakers and state Environmental Commissioner Stanley Pac held talks with EPA officials to avoid a federally imposed auto inspection program. The EPA may delay hearings until September and consider letting the state craft its own pollution controls including vapor recovery at gas stations. Pac said EPA appeared receptive to a state led plan but warned against “playing games” as Congress weighs action.

Elizabeth Park Receives Over 1000 New Roses Donation

Hartford group The Friends of Elizabeth Park formed in April has donated more than 1000 rose plants to Elizabeth Park Rose Garden. The garden, possibly the oldest municipal display in the country, has suffered deterioration. The plants from Ireland and Oregon will be dedicated Wednesday.

Connecticut Animals Sent to Guatemala in Heifer Project

Dozens of goats, sheep, and rabbits from Connecticut and Massachusetts head to Guatemala to aid families via the Heifer Project International.
