Mrs Piu Baengia Cuccuru died June 6 in Sardango Italy. She is survived by son Costantino Cuccuru of Naugatuck and two other children in Italy. Funeral services were held in Italy.
Mrs. Walter E. Brandt of Oakville formerly Waterbury dies after long illness at Whitewood Manor Nursing Home. Born in Poland, she lived in Waterbury 60 years, moving to Oakville a year ago, survived by husband and 5 sons, 1 daughter, 2 stepchildren, sister, and many grandchildren. Funeral details for Mrs. Catherine Kelly include Mass at St Francis Church, burial at St. James Cemetery, with service at Buckmiller Funeral Home.
Borough Clerk Michael Mor mile today announced meetings planned for this week. Tonight at 7 30 p m Golf Course Trustees and Charter Revision Commission gather. Wednesday at 7 30 p m Youth Services meets. Thursday at 4 p m Day Care Board, 7 p m Water Pollution Control Board, and 8 p m Police.
Hartford Police Chief Hugo Masini says the department is studying hollow nosed bullets used by the State Police. He notes these bullets mushroom on impact, increasing stopping power and reducing stray wounds, and adds Hartford has no plan to adopt the .337 Magnum revolvers used by state troopers.
The American Bible Society announces Good News America a bicentennial Bible project to publish the entire Good News Bible in 1976. Led by Rev Dr Laton Holmgren and Rev Dr Robert Bratcher a nationwide town to town scripture distribution will reach the homeless and needy and travel along major rivers from Kentucky to Louisiana.
Stanley P. Szoldra, 21, of 32 School St., was arrested for carrying a dangerous weapon in a motor vehicle and reckless driving. Other local items include a written warning for motorcycle helmet use, thefts, vandalism, and a wallet with cash reported stolen.
Coast Guard helicopter lowers two pumps to the 108-foot Atlantic from New Bedford with eight crewmen as it heads toward Woods Hole after taking on water about 40 miles south of Nantucket. On the same weekend three Worcester men were found aboard a 25-foot cabin cruiser off Provincetown and Plymouth, and a father and son were rescued from a sinking 36-foot pilot boat in Buzzards Bay. A helicopter also evacuated James Weber and his son Scott of Holbrook New Jersey.
Tornadoes touched eastern New York causing minor damage to a Ford dealership in Burnt Hills and a barn near Bethlehem. Spreading rain and heat records were reported from Fort Bragg, Charlottesville, and Dulles Airport with heavy Southeast rain and cools in Indianapolis.
Hartford states paving starts today on a 2.2 mile section of Route 7 around Danbury Airport. Commissioner Joseph B. Burns says the resurfacing project is part of summer plans to improve access to transportation facilities. The contractor will run northbound lane in the morning and southbound in the afternoon to cut traffic impacts.
