Francis School graduation exercises were held in the church last evening at 7 30 o clock. The Rev Mbert Taylor presented the diplomas. Scholarships were awarded by the Knights of Columbus to Betty Ann Leary and by the Mothers Club to Diana Marguerite Whalen. The Rev Hornor McGuire gave the graduation address.

Speaker Martin: Post Office to Seek Across The Board Rate Hike
Washington reports House Speaker Joseph Martin announced the Post Office Department will ask Congress to raise rates across the board including that class postage. The plan follows a 96 minute GOP briefing with the President. Summerfield estimates a 954 million dollar postal deficit next fiscal year starting July 1. The department says it has discharged about 60 postmasters since the Republicans took office, a figure seen as unusual for a five month period.
