Six candidates for the second ward burgess vacancy meet at 7 pm in the town hall court room. Burns is favored by party leaders. The Bristol Co. Quarter Century club held a memorial service for late president Howard H. Bristol who died June 2. Rev. Willard B. Soper led the service while Francis J. Reynolds and others were welcomed as new 25 year members with cash awards, gold pins, and certificates. The club now has 128 long serving employees.
Connecticut's Little League champions must defeat Rhode Island to reach the National finals. State Director Bernie O'Rourke announced the change to include more teams across eight districts. Previously the Connecticut winner automatically advanced to Williamsport finals. The Little League World Series begins August 21.
St Hedwigs will graduate 13 students at the 8 oclock Mass Sunday June 17 in the church. Rev Stanley Hastillo principal and assistant pastor will give a short talk before diplomas. Three scholarships will be awarded. Names include Jarcia Klonoski Lorraine Longo Harriet Pogorzelski Patricia Rurowski Virginia Smegelski Shirley Imsiow Walter Hass Donald Jacques Robert Massicotte and others.
The U S Destroyer Walke was struck by an underwater explosion off the east coast during the Korean War era and suffered 26 killed and seven wounded. Navy officials say a mine blast most likely caused the damage while noting a possible torpedo hit.
Tax Commissioner asked to rule on financing the 1931 52 budget as Frank E B Bronson and attorney Howard Olderman petition the state tax commissioner for guidance. First Selectman Frank W Semplenski said a decision will come at tomorrow nights meeting before the budget is accepted. The Loyal Daughters of the United Church sponsor a food sale at Grubers Store. Center school class picnic postponed due to bad weather with plans to reschedule after a baseball game delay.
Nougaluck police yesterday arrested 20 year old Ernest Weiss of 71 Wall Street New Haven on charges of passing worthless checks. He was caught around 2 pm by officer Smith while observed in a car with plates registered to a friend. Weiss was returned to New Haven to face charges.
Superintendent Harpal E. Chittenden said the Naugatuck board of education will meet this afternoon to discuss routine matters. Vacancies exist in Satem Kindergarten and fourth grade at dop Brook second grade and Western Elementary fifth grade. Substitutes have been used at Western Elementary and Hop Brook half day kindergarten. The calendar for next year and transfers requested by parents will be considered along with pupil transportation plans.
A morning power outage in the borough began at 9:15 after a tree limb fell onto wires, causing a short circuit in the Waterbury to Naugatuck supply lines. The outage lasted six minutes while circuits were transferred, with Union City area crews without power about 30 minutes. witness James Grant reported a bright flash near a transformer.
Mrs Anna Comiskey of 24 Washington Street Naugtus k Waterbury died June 33 1951. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 8:30 from C H Green Funeral Home to St Marys Church for a 9 oclock mass. Burial will follow at St James Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday 7 to 10 pm and Friday 2 to 5 pm and 7 to 10 pm.
Connecticut Congressman Albert P. Morano reports to Secretary Marshall that Camp Pickett Virginia has been rid of some poor mutiny conditions but morale remains low due to army brass and early moves by Major General Kenneth F. Cramer. He says the 43d division trained there is embittered and blames no grounds for the Cry Baby nickname. Morano asserts the division shows the cream of the nation’s manpower.
Outdoor graduation ceremonies for 144 elementary students were postponed due to rain and shifted to the next clear day, likely tomorrow evening at 6 30 on Tuttle lawn. Superintendent Harold E. Chittenden announced the cancellation, noting prior years see similar weather-related delays.

Mrs. Anna Comiskey of 24 Washington Street widow of Tuuke Comiskey died last night in St. Mary's hospital after a brief illness. Born in Ireland she came to this country and Naugatuck about 66 years ago and was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Ancient Order of Hibernians. Surviving: two sons Luke of Naugatuck and Roswald of Detroit. two daughters Mrs. Julius Van Megroot of New Haven and Mrs. Anthony Turcett of Whitewater. six grandchildren. four great grandchildren. several nieces and nephews. Funeral from C. H. Green Funeral Home Saturday at 8:30 to St. Mary's Church for High Mass at 9. Burial in St. James Cemetery. Friends may call tonight 7–10 and tomorrow 2–4 and 7–9.
