Flying Eagle Patrol of Troop Six led the awards with high praise from Mattatuck Council president Heaneth Johnson. Some 200 Scouts camped in heavy rain, proving strong leadership and self reliance as they pitched tents cooked meals and cleaned sites without adult help.

Two men injured while fighting a footwear plant fire at U.S. Rubber in building 22. Fire Chief James Pettit and volunteer Frank Klonoski treated. injuries not serious. Fire began around 2:30 AM, firefighters confined blaze to heater area on first floor, smoke hindered efforts. Pettit and Klonoski treated by Dr. Towne. both undergoing x-rays to assess injuries. Fire alarms from Box 23, duration about two hours.
Hillside Church will host its annual Children’s Day program on Sunday afternoon June 13 at 9 o’clock. A baptism service will open, with the children’s choir and Sunday school presenting a Bible themed program titled Out of the Bible. Readings by David Rappe and others, with scenes and roles including Culn and Abel and Palm Sunday children. Organizers are Ejtan Abramson and Verna Anderson.
