Springfield notes Weston M. Boyd son of Mr and Mrs Shuar Boyd of 26 North Bradley Street Naugatuck Conn will serve as lifeguard for the Connecticut State Parks association this summer He is a Springfield College student and junior who attends the accelerated wartime summer session ending June 27 He is an alumnus of Naugatuck High School class of 1940 active in football and swimming and an officer of the Aquatic Club The health and physical education division at Springfield College lists him as a member in good standing.
In Boston on June 12 two boys died in swimming accidents on the Charles River. A 14-year-old boy named allegedly Joseph Allessandro of Boston’s worknorth neighborhood and a 12-year-old boy named Wingston drowned in separate incidents, marking another bleak entry in the season’s swim tragedies.
Thirty-one members of the United States Coast Guard based at the State Police barracks in Bethany will join the Naugatuck parade Sunday for hay Day observances. Factory manager Harry L Carter announced a summer schedule to keep all departments operating through June on a 51 2 day cycle. War demand may require uninterrupted operations and some departments may close for short showtimes if ahead of schedule. Vacation checks will be distributed July 1, in addition to regular pay when vacations cannot be granted.
United Press reports Italy suffers hunger and sickness as the Axis war drags into its third year. Advices from reliable sources say the Italian people sense a turning tide despite biased news. Small riots are described daily, with July events not bringing surprises to the outside world.

The Young Democrats of Connecticut open their annual convention in Stamford with principal sessions on Saturday. Governor Hurley and other state officers will attend the session, and the governor may indicate whether he will seek reelection. Keynett, speaker at the convention, and Congressman Leroy Downs of South Norwalk are noted as attendees.
